Buffett, acquired Precision Castparts Corp.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Location Profile:</p> <p>Headquartered in Irvine, CA, Shur-Lok manufactures fastening systems with superior locking devices for critical requirements including engine module assembly, structural assembly, rotor blade attachment, and aircraft engine shaft and spindle applications. Operations at the Irvine location include CNC Machining, CNC Waterjet Cutting, Laser Marking, Heat Treating, NDT, and EDM.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for designing, building, and troubleshooting, new dies and tooling as well setting up and maintaining all types of dies used in the production of fasteners.</p> <p>Operates various machine tools and performs other highly skilled work, such a laying out, fitting and assembling parts. Should be able to construct tools where no design is available and work to exact and critical tolerances.</p> <p>Primary Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <p>Tool and die makers are responsible for fashioning precision tools. The tools that they design will be used to form, shape or cut materials. Tool and die makers also produce dies, which are metal forms used for the shaping of metal while it is being forged. Work from specifications in the form of sketches, models, and blueprints:</p> <ul> <li>Plans the layout, fabrication and assembly of production machining tooling, such as holding and checking fixtures, machining jigs, forming dies, templates, molds centering and locating devices, inspecting gauges and special machine accessories and attachments. </li><li>Makes tools such as drill jigs. Checks fixtures, and drill plates involving irregular contours and allocating points in more than one plate and fixtures for holding compound angle cuts through plates, multiple purpose fixtures, forming stage dies, molds, quick change chucks, centering and locating devices and special production and inspection tooling. </li><li>Sets up and operates any machine tools as required in the fabrication and in providing of tooling (i.e., lathe, mills, grinders, progressive dies, and simple strike dies.) </li><li>Improvises minimum cost tooling for one-time or rush jobs. </li><li>Designs, builds, fits and assembles components according to assembly blueprints, manuals, engineering memos, sketches and uses his knowledge of machine construction to construct prototype machinery, using hand tools and power tools. </li><li>Verifies all alignment and tolerances of moving parts, using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators and thickness gauges. Tests operation of assembly by hand. </li><li>Assembles, sets up and operates machine to verify functioning machine capabilities and conformance to specifications. </li><li>May form and fasten piping, fixtures and attachments required to service machine with air, water and oil. </li><li>Performs all set ups without assistance according to blueprint specifications. </li><li>Sets up compound and progressive dies for multiple action, toggle and punch presses when required with no assistance. </li><li>Performs work requiring extreme metal flow, or where operations deviate from standard procedure because of variations in hardness or gauge of metal which involves additional adjustments such as changing the sheet height of press or pressure of the die cushion. </li><li>Complies with all company safety rules and regulations, including the use of company-provided personal protective equipment/supplies, using tools in a safe manner, reporting unsafe conditions or practices to supervisor or the safety committee. </li></ul> <p>Required Skills and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>3+ year experience of Technical Die Design Concept and Tool and Die Maker experience. </li><li>Ability to plan the construction of tooling design, part print or functional information. </li><li>Ability to lay out parts in detail for required machining operations. </li><li>Must be familiar with the general composition of tooling steels, machine ability of metals, effect or heat treat on steel. </li><li>Ability in operating a variety of manual and CNC controlled machinery to produce precision parts and components to exact specifications. </li><li>Ability to review and understand engineering drawings, customer provided part drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished parts, sequence of operations and set up requirements. </li><li>Use moderate physical effort in the use of hand tools, wrenches, and hoists, pry bars, hammers, etc. </li><li>Carry weights of up to 50 pounds occasionally for short periods. </li><li>Manufacturing and Machine shop experience. </li><li>Mathematical Skill - Demonstrate the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
