Professional Tutors aid students in breaking down course material and understanding concepts.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Supervise the evening operations including the student tutoring staff and facilitate the tutorial services in the Academic Success Center; </li><li>Help students untangle new concepts, assist them by teaching how to read, evaluate, and complete complicated equations, and solve appropriate problems; </li><li>Meet face-to-face in small groups to help students identify learning issues in chemistry, and develop skills that will build successful techniques for progress and excellence in their academic work; </li><li>Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty; </li><li>Attend training activities to comply with tutoring requirements and expectations before and/or during semesters </li><li>Adhere to tutoring center protocol and use of appointment-making tools (MyWCOnline) </li><li>Provide documentation and analysis of student attendance and performance during tutoring sessions; </li><li>Demonstrated experience with working with diverse students and learners; </li><li>Work with Assistant Director Academic Success Center/Math Learning Labto increase awareness and usage of the Academic Success Center; </li><li>Refer students and faculty to learning and support services on campus as appropriate; </li><li>Excellent written and oral communication skills; </li><li>Demonstrate competency in use of contemporary computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and; </li><li>Assist with other learning assistance projects as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Occasional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director Academic Success Center/Math Learning Lab. </li></ul> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Tutoring or teaching experience required; </li><li>Ability to answer on-the-spot student questions in the course's content area; </li><li>Ability to effectively plan and lead group-study workshops using course content to highlight the learning process in chemistry for students; </li><li>Strong evidence of successful collaborations with faculty and staff partners; </li><li>Evidence of strong organizational skills with the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner; </li><li>Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction for students with diverse needs; </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of student development approach and academic coaching techniques; </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work well with college students, evidence of problem-solving ability and management skills; </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work with a racially and ethnically diverse student population; </li><li>Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing; </li><li>Ability to be self-directed and to problem-solve remotely are critical characteristics for this position; </li><li>Evidence of commitment to professional growth and development in academic support; </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work with computer-based systems and software. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Environmental Conditions</p> <p>The employee is not exposed to known adverse environmental conditions.</p>
