We are seeking dynamic individuals who can provide excellent service at our circulation desks, connecting customers with library cards and assisting them with their account questions. This is not a seasonal position.</p> <p>JOB OVERVIEW:</p> <p>As a member of the Library's program implementation team, under the supervision of the branch manager and circulation manager, this employee provides front-line customer service to patrons at the circulation desk, both in person and over the telephone. This employee issues and renews library cards, processes holds, inspects materials for damage, mends and repairs print and non-print materials, and handles cash for the payment of fines and fees.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>Provide front-line customer service at the circulation desk, in person, over the telephone, and online</p> <p>Instruct the public in use of the Library's automated book return system and self-checkout units</p> <p>Follow through on procedures for collection evaluation and maintenance; contribute to processing and maintenance of specialty collections</p> <p>Perform circulation-related and clerical tasks, including handling money, issuing library cards, inspecting condition of returned materials, and mending print/nonprint materials according to Library procedure</p> <p>Instruct patrons in use of basic technology resources, such as printers, scanners, copiers, and public computers</p> <p>Actively promote Library resources, programs, and services during patron interactions</p> <p>Preserve safety, appearance, and condition of Library facilities and property</p> <p>Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class. Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>None</p> <p>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Education: High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities for the position.</p> <p>Experience: At least one (1) years of customer service experience required. Demonstrated experience in accounting for money and inventory control.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):</p> <p>Knowledge: Familiarity with standard software used in business applications, such as Word and Excel. Familiarity with current Web applications such as search engines, email interfaces, social media, and eBook and eAudio applications/commonly used devices. Understanding of the relationships and responsibilities of Library divisions and buildings. Understanding of Library mission and roles, and the general role of public libraries within a community.</p> <p>Skills: Excellent customer service skills.</p> <p>Abilities: Ability to communicate in more than one language preferred. Ability to work methodically with strict attention to detail. Ability to complete assigned tasks within established time frame. Ability to work as a team member to accomplish results. Ability to use and troubleshoot office machines, such as copiers, scanners, printers, and cash registers. A commitment to public service and the ability to work effectively with a diverse patron base. Ability to implement Library Board policies and procedures.</p> <p>YOUR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment background check prior to starting the position.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk, hear, crouch, crawl, balance, reach, stoop, and kneel. Must use hands and fingers to operate a computer. The employee is regularly required to lift up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally up to fifty pounds. The employee must be able to remove library materials from shelves at a maximum height of six feet and push library carts weighing up to 175 pounds. Must be able to move about the work area, talk clearly with customers, and hear customer responses. Must have excellent close vision and good distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works indoors in a library public service environment.</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Employees must be able to work rotating shifts (seven days a week) and flexible hours (morning, afternoon, evening, and holiday hours) when the library is open. All employees will work up to two evenings per week and will alternate weekend shifts with the other employees in their division. Employees will also work holiday hours of equal proportion to those of other employees in their division.</p> <p>CAREER LADDER:</p> <p>Position Title: Technical Specialist (Business), Circulation Services, Level 2</p> <p>Job Class: 0613-15</p> <p>Pay Band: 9</p> <p>Must have actively and consistently demonstrated all of the skill, ability, and willingness to perform all duties associated with a Technical Specialist (Business) I position in an above standard manner over a period of two years; must have consistently played a leadership role in obtaining expected results.</p> <p>Position Title: Technical Specialist (Business), Circulation Services, Level 3</p> <p>Job Class: 0614-15</p> <p>Pay Band: 10</p> <p>Must have actively and consistently demonstrated all of the skill, ability, and willingness to perform, and lead others in, all duties associated with a Technical Specialist (Business) II position in an above standard manner over a period of two years; must assume responsibility for taking on a special task or ongoing projects according to established procedures and System priorities.</p>
