<p>Works in various areas of the news department as assigned, learning first-hand the operation of the newsroom and gaining valuable hands-on experience under the direct supervision of news staff.</p> <p>Activities to include any regular functions of the newsroom, including but not limited to writing, producing, reporting, photojournalism, and operations in the day-to-day newsgathering performed by members of the news staff.</p> <p>Attends daily editorial meetings, checks news sources, including wire services, email contacts, and phone calls received by the content desk.</p> <p>Assigned practical work in supporting working journalists, including researching, writing, and editing material to be reviewed and potentially incorporated in the newsgathering processes of the news department.</p> <p>Is knowledgeable about local, national, and world events. Is informed about issues and concerns of the station's audience.</p> <p>Other duties as may be assigned, in keeping with the spirit of providing practical experience to the student who will, in turn, document the internship as may be required by their educational institution.</p> <p>Must be able to work in areas and conditions that are often noisy with many distractions.</p> <p>Must be able to listen to and respond verbally in English to others.</p> <p>Must have manual dexterity to operate office equipment (including telephone, PC workstation, copier, etc.) and manipulate computer keys.</p> <p>Ability to think critically and logically.</p> <p>Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Average pushing and pulling, bending and stooping.</p> <p>Articulate information in a clear, concise manner to others verbally and in writing.</p> <p>Must be able to move quickly at times throughout the building.</p> <p>Works with time-sensitive information under tight deadlines and in pressure situations.</p> <p>Must be able to stand or sit for periods of time.</p> <p>Able to work outside in extreme weather conditions as needed to gather information, including video shots, for stories. The Company will make reasonable physical accommodations to facilitate the ability to perform essential job functions.</p> <p>Works in professional, fast-paced, collaborative team environment with a number of members at any given time</p> <p>Full-time student pursuing a college degree with a major in journalism, mass communications or related field in an accredited institution of higher learning.</p> <p>Should have recommendation of the academic advisor of the student.</p> <p>Ability to read, write and speak English well with good communications skills.</p> <p>Good news judgment and understanding of daily news content.</p> <p>Able to work well in a high-pressure environment, often under tight deadlines. Must be capable of handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and managing time-sensitive material in real-time.</p> <p>Highly organized and detail-oriented.</p> <p>Proficient with computers and web-based skills in research.</p> <p>Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite.</p> <p>Able to respond to emails, answer phone calls and communicate professionally.</p> <p>Ability to report to the newsroom for work for up to eight-hour shifts on determined schedules.</p>
