<p>Under the direction of the Coroner and Deputy Coroners investigates deaths and performs other duties as required, in accordance with the policies and procedures of Lucas County and the Ohio Revised Code.</p> <p>Maintains discretion and confidentiality regarding the deceased, the family and all surrounding circumstances.</p> <p>At the direction of the Coroner, Deputy Coroners or Chief of Investigations and Morgue Operations, investigates any deaths coming under the jurisdiction of the Coroner.</p> <p>Interaction with a wide variety of people and institutions, including medical personnel, law enforcement agencies, primary care physicians, hospitals, other safety services, attorneys, media personnel, families of the deceased, funeral directors, insurance representatives and the general public either in person or on the phone.</p> <p>Honestly and impartially discharges the duties of office according to the State of Ohio laws and the policies and procedures of the Lucas County Coroner. Prepares intelligible and grammatically correct communications on a computer and record keeping functions including oral and written reports to be used by the Coroner's office, Prosecutor's and/or Court systems.</p> <p>Skillfully questions suspected offenders, victims and witnesses of crime. Assists persons in need of information and refers them to the proper authorities. Performs other public contact and public relations work for the Coroner as instructed. Maintains proper "Chain of Evidence" at scene of investigations and protects property as needed within the established procedures of the Coroner's office. Facilitates next-of-kin notification and positive identification of the deceased.</p> <p>Handle all calls/reports of a death, scene investigation, scene photos, meet and talk with law enforcement, fire department personnel and/or family members. Notify transport for pickup of body.</p> <p>Phone calls to report a death wherein the PCP will sign the DC require documentation on a release form, proper filing and entry into database.</p> <p>Data entry to include demographics, circumstances and narrative of each case and typing/printing reports into/from computer.</p> <p>Complete paperwork required in SIDS deaths when indicated</p> <p>Execute writs, subpoena's for medical records, admission samples, etc. and to pick up such</p> <p>Errands for payroll, accounts payable, pay in's, agreements, etc.</p> <p>Filing of paperwork and charts.</p> <p>When necessary, must be able to perform many or all of these functions independently.</p> <p>Performs other duties as required by the Lucas County Coroner.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <p>Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written</p> <p>Must be able to prepare and type legible, accurate reports</p> <p>Knowledge of buildings and geography of Lucas County</p> <p>Able to effectively use cameras</p> <p>Computer skills must include data entry and typing/printing reports. Familiar with Word, Excel, PowerPoint or its equivalent</p> <p>Must possess a valid Driver's license</p> <p>Knowledge of and wide acquaintance with all public agencies and officials</p> <p>Two or more years of college with emphasis on forensic sciences, police-oriented subjects or health related field.</p> <p>Death investigation experience is highly desirable.</p> <p>Must have a minimum of five (5) years investigative experience, preferably ten (10) years. Most of past experience is to consist of investigations of homicides and suicides, including violent and unusual deaths. May be an RN or BSN with work experience in trauma and/or ER.</p> <p>Must obtain ABDMI (American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators) certification within two [2] years of employment.</p>
