Preference will be given to applicants with previous Language Arts / English teaching experience at the middle school level.</p> <p>Reports To:</p> <p>Building Administrator and Director of English / Language Arts</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>Hamden Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic dynamic, and dedicated Middle School English Teacher to join our community. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable classroom environment where students of all backgrounds feel valued and supported. As part of a district that celebrates diversity as a source of strength, inspiration, and knowledge, the English Teacher will play a key role in empowering students to reach their fullest potential through high-quality, ambitious instruction. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about providing students with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century while embracing the unique cultural experience each student brings to the classroom.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Instruction: Develop and implement engaging, student-centered English lessons that promote literacy, critical thinking, and creative expression. Facilitate standards-aligned instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, ensuring that each individual can access and excel with the curriculum.</p> </li><li> <p>Differentiation: Use varied teaching strategies and differentiated instruction to support students at varying levels of proficiency, ensuring that all learners, regardless of their identity or background, can succeed in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.</p> </li><li> <p>Inclusive Practices: Create a classroom environment that celebrates diversity and encourages respectful dialogue and collaboration among students. Foster an inclusive curriculum that reflects the experiences, cultures, and perspectives of all students.</p> </li><li> <p>Assessment & Feedback: Regularly assess student progress through formal and informal assessments. Provide timely, constructive feedback to help students improve and meet academic goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and staff to support a school culture of inclusion and excellence. Actively participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve instructional practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, supportive, and well-organized classroom environment that fosters student engagement, responsibility, and respect. Establish clear expectations for behavior and academic work.</p> </li><li> <p>Family and Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with students' families and the broader Hamden community.
