<p>Job Description:</p> <p>General Education Teacher 6th Grade Teacher</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the School Principal, Sterling teachers facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and culturally responsive learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals as determined by the superintendent.</p> <p>All offers of employment will be conditional upon the successful outcome of a criminal record check. Any person applying for employment with the Board shall submit to a record check of the Department of Children and Families Child Abuse and Neglect Registry before the person may be hired.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>The primary function of a Sterling teacher is the planning for and effective delivery of instruction and assessment of student learning. In addition, a Sterling teacher:</p> <ul> <li>Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives. </li><li>Promotes a classroom environment that is conducive to student success. </li><li>Designs and effectively implements personalized instruction. </li><li>Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences that are innovative and promote deeper learning. </li><li>Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs. </li><li>Maintains familiarity with district, state and national standardized assessments. </li><li>Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field. </li><li>Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. </li><li>Facilitates families as co-educators in students' education and ensures effective communication with students, parents and stakeholders. </li><li>Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior in accordance with school and district policies. </li><li>Communicates and collaborates effectively with other staff members and participates in staff meetings and workshops. </li><li>Participates in data team meetings as required. </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties:</p> <p>Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.</p> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of Connecticut Core Standards. </li><li>Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy. </li><li>Knowledge of personalized instruction based upon student learning needs and styles. </li><li>Knowledge of applicable federal state laws regarding education and students. </li><li>Skill in data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. </li><li>Skill in meeting the educational needs of racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically and linguistically diverse group of learners. </li><li>Skill in effective communication and collaboration with all members of the school community including families and colleagues. </li><li>Skill in identifying and building upon the unique talents and strengths of each student. </li><li>Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. </li><li>Ability to organize and coordinate work. </li><li>Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships </li></ul> <p>Certification/License:</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut State Certification </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. </li><li>Master's Degree in related area preferred. </li></ul> <p>If interested, please appy on our website: www.sterlingschool.org - District - Empoloyment - Applitrack</p>
