<p>Deputy Director for Educational Programming, Training, and Orientation</p> <p>POSITION DETAILS</p> <p>The Center for Inclusivity and Equal Opportunity ("CIEO" or the "Center") was established by the Board of Trustees and the Chancellor for the City University of New York ("CUNY" or the "University") in June 2024, as part of CUNY's ongoing efforts to combat discrimination and harassment, and CUNY's ongoing efforts to continuously foster understanding amongst our diverse community members. The Center is responsible for systemwide report management and compliance pertaining to discrimination and harassment, policy review, development, and implementation of all CUNY policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment, regular and comprehensive training and orientation for administrators implementing CUNY's policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment, systemwide educational programming addressing discrimination and harassment, and monitoring and analyzing discrimination and harassment data obtained from all 25 campuses in the CUNY system and from the central office. The goal of the Center is to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the CUNY community, including discrimination and harassment that violates Title II, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and associated federal, state, and local civil rights laws.</p> <p>The Center is seeking a Deputy Director for Educational Programming, Training, and Orientation to play a key leadership role in enhancing the cultural competencies of CUNY community members in furtherance of CUNY's efforts to eliminate discrimination and harassment within the CUNY community, coordinating the systemwide plan to provide regular and comprehensive programs and events fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive educational spaces that are free from discrimination and harassment, and assessing the effectiveness of CUNY's educational programming, trainings, and orientations addressing discrimination and harassment.</p> <p>Reporting to the Center's Executive Director, the Deputy Director for Educational Programming, Training, and Orientation will provide centralized, regular, and comprehensive educational programming, training, and orientation that aligns with the content offered by the 25 campuses in the CUNY system and by the Central Office.</p> <p>Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Oversee and ensure that regular and all-encompassing training sessions and orientations are conducted for CUNY staff, faculty, and students on matters related to discrimination and harassment. This includes adherence to all federal, state, and local civil rights laws (such as Title II, Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX) as well as the policies and bylaws established by CUNY that prohibit discrimination and harassment.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead efforts to cultivate transformative and inclusive environments university-wide that empower and engage CUNY students, faculty, and staff through intentional programming, meaningful dialogue, and collaborative initiatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and implement comprehensive programs, facilitate educational workshop/events, and establish communication frameworks that build competencies in civil discourse and foster respectful, inclusive, and productive engagement across the university community.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with campus stakeholders to assess the need for developing competencies pertaining to race, religion, ethnicity, sex, disability, and other characteristics reflected in the CUNY community; partner with leadership to recommend and implement strategies for continuous improvement and progress towards established University goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Strategically design and oversee comprehensive initiatives, events, and resources that honor and celebrate the rich and multifaceted characteristics and experiences within the CUNY community.</p> </li><li> <p>Promote and facilitate engagement with internal and external programs, activities and initiatives fostering a climate of respect, inclusivity, and pluralism within the university community</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the comprehensive coordination of faculty and staff training programs and orientations focused on the resolution processes for discrimination and harassment complaints. This includes the onboarding of newly appointed Chief Diversity Officers and their teams, as well as the annual training of Title II, Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX officers and support personnel. Additionally, ensuring that the Chancellor's cabinet, CUNY presidents, and deans receive annual training on the University's policies pertaining to Title II, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and associated civil rights legislation.</p> </li><li> <p>Assess the success of educational programming, trainings, and orientations, and creating meaningful evaluations to create space for continuous quality improvement and participant feedback.</p> </li><li> <p>Keep abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices to guarantee the University's adherence to programming and training requirements.</p> </li></ul> <p>NOTE :</p> <p>Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Minimum:</p> <p>Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.</p> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Master's Degree, Juris Doctor, or other doctoral degree in a related field</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, laws, and guidelines including Title II, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Clery Act, New York Education Law Article 129-A and 129-B, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504, state and local disability laws, and relevant CUNY policies and bylaws</p> </li><li> <p>A record of successful leadership in the equal employment opportunity (EEO)/compliance sector including implementation of educational and training programs designed to enhance inclusion and improve workplace climate and culture, preferably in a higher education setting</p> </li><li> <p>Experience developing programming and conducting trainings in equal opportunity and inclusive spaces</p> </li><li> <p>Self-directed results and detail orientation with the ability to use sound judgment and data in decision-making</p> </li><li> <p>Experience supervising and coaching staff - strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations, facilitate groups, and mediate the successful resolution of conflicts and complaints</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent evaluative and research skills</p> </li><li> <p>Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish plans, launch new initiatives, and manage multiple assignments with conflicting priorities and strict deadlines</p> </li><li> <p>Computer applications proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and PeopleSoft</p> </li></ul> <p>CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW</p> <p>Oversees and provides leadership for The City University of New York (CUNY) Diversity Management and Compliance Programs.</p> <ul> <li>Oversees University-wide compliance with City, State, and Federal statutes and university policies covering AA/EEO, 504/ADA, Pluralism and Diversity, and Sexual Harassment Prevention </li><li>Oversees governmental and University reporting obligations and compliance policies and procedures, including Affirmative Action Plans. </li><li>Consults with CUNY campus and University units, guiding implementation, monitoring, and enhancement of employment, diversity, and compliance programs </li><li>Provides communications and training to assist campus personnel involved in Diversity Management </li><li>Promotes a respectful workplace that is free from discrimination </li><li>Performs related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>CUNY TITLE</p> <p>Higher Education Officer</p> <p>FLSA</p> <p>Exempt</p> <p>COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS</p> <p>The salary range is $141,858 - $151,470 , commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.</p> <p>CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.</p> <p>CUNY's benefits contribute significantly to total compensation, supporting health and wellness, financial well-being, and professional development.
