<p>UPMC Hamot is hiring a full-time Patient Care Technician to join our CVICU!</p> <p>The UPMC Hamot CVICU is a 16-bed unit on the second floor of the new patient care tower. The exceptional care provided in this unit contributes to UPMC Hamot's certification as a Comprehensive Cardiac Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. CVICU also holds the distinction as a Gold Level Beacon Award of Excellence recipient, representing not only excellence in patient care but also an incredible work environment.</p> <p>Some of our specific patient populations include:</p> <ul> <li>Cardiac Surgery: CABG, MVR, AVR, TVR, TAVR </li><li>Thoracic Surgery </li><li>Vascular Surgery and Minimally Invasive Interventions </li><li>Cardiogenic Shock </li><li>Cardiac Arrest and Critical Arrhythmias </li><li>Cardiac Assist Devices (IABP, Impella) </li><li>Ischemic Strokes </li><li>Hemorrhagic Strokes (without intervention) </li></ul> <p>This position is full-time, rotating day/night shifts.</p> <p>Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Assists with patient care, procedures, and activities of daily living (ADLs). </li><li>Supports physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. </li><li>Reports patient status changes and provides feedback to RN. </li><li>Performs core nursing assistant tasks: blood glucose checks, weights, vital signs, intake/output, specimen collection, Foley care. </li><li>Completes at least four advanced tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV removal. </li><li>Reports equipment malfunctions and communicates effectively with other departments. </li><li>Responds to call lights, phones, passes meal trays, and transports patients. </li><li>Accepts feedback, identifies learning needs, and seeks assistance for prioritization. </li><li>Provides patient/family instruction under RN direction; applies/removes restraints per protocol. </li><li>Maintains clear communication, cultural sensitivity, and workplace safety. </li><li>Builds professional relationships with accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment. </li><li>Adheres to all patient care and hospital policies, including safety and standard precautions. </li><li>Supports departmental changes, projects, and quality initiatives. </li><li>Documents accurately and completes clerical tasks as needed. </li><li>Achieves competency in advanced skills as required: phlebotomy, IV removal, Foley removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping/removal. </li><li>Access to medications limited to distribution to nurse. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>High school diploma or GED</p> </li><li> <p>One of the following:</p> </li><li> <p>1 year of general healthcare experience</p> </li><li> <p>6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion (if less than 1 year experience)</p> </li><li> <p>Enrollment in PT/OT/PA or related healthcare training program with at least one clinical rotation completed</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelor's degree in a health sciences field</p> </li><li> <p>Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class</p> </li><li> <p>Successful completion of eRecord training</p> </li><li> <p>EMT or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in EMT/Paramedic program preferred</p> </li></ul> <p>Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:</p> <ul> <li>Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. </li><li>Act 34 </li><li>ACLS preferred </li></ul> <p>UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran</p>
