<p>The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks Part-Time Instructor to teach Orange Collective Vocal Jazz Ensemble/Orange Syndicate Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a one credit hour course, during the Fall & Spring semesters, 2025-26.</p> <p>Artist/Part-Time Instructor of Jazz/Commercial Vocal Ensemble</p> <p>About The College of Visual and Performing Arts</p> <p>The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University is committed to the education of cultural leaders who will engage and inspire audiences through performance, visual art, design, scholarship, and commentary. To learn more about the college, our distinguished faculty, and our program, please visit our websites at www.syr.edu, www.vpa.syr.edu.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>A minimum of a master's degree in music (jazz or commercial voice performance or equivalent experience preferred). </li><li>Experience teaching jazz and commercial music at the collegiate level. </li><li>Jazz/Commercial Music/Performance credentials. </li><li>Significant piano skills required including ability to accompany students in ensemble settings. </li><li>Jazz/Commercial Vocal Ensemble directing experience. </li></ul> <p>Job Specific Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Strong attention to detail. </li><li>Knowledge of course content. </li><li>Demonstrated pedagogical ability. </li><li>As well as the ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Being present and instructing as needed: Orange Collective (Monday/Wednesday 12:45-2:05 PM - Fall), and Orange Syndicate (Monday/Wednesday 12:45-2:05 - Spring) meetings two days per week as indicated, in the Fall/Spring semesters. </li><li>Set up performance schedule. </li><li>Attend jazz faculty orientation meeting, and jazz faculty meetings throughout the semester (approximately 3 per semester). </li><li>Prepare and attend ensemble performances as indicated in School of Music calendar </li><li>Develop and/or update a class syllabus. </li><li>Prepare student assignments. </li><li>Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. </li><li>Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. </li><li>Meet all designated class periods. </li><li>Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to university regulations. </li><li>If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. </li><li>You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class. </li><li>Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. </li><li>Grade student assignments and exams in timely manner. </li><li>Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty. </li><li>Support student performances at major jazz & commercial music events where possible. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume/curriculum vitae and cover letter.</p>
