The mission of the Division of Education is to prepare every offender through the advancement of academic achievement and work ready skills for successful reentry.</p> <p>As education corrections professionals, it is our job to assist in the rehabilitation and reentry of offenders by working within the Department, with community partners, and state agencies to increase community safety and reduce recidivism rates. The corrections vocational instructor will provide direct instruction in plumbing, and support in planning, facilitating, and coordinating educational opportunities to offenders within the correctional environment.</p> <p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:</p> <ul> <li>Provides targeted instruction (classroom and performance based) in plumbing to students and/or adult inmates in a Correctional Setting, which includes promoting education during inmate orientation and to the general population. </li><li>Maintains order and discipline in the classroom. </li><li>Delivers instruction through multiple modalities using a variety of technology platforms i.e., distance, virtual, tablets, smartboard, etc. </li><li>Develops lesson plans on educational topics within assigned correctional facility; adheres to approved curriculum, expected outcomes and program requirements; and submits all transcripts and documents to the appropriate agencies for review and approval. </li><li>Advises students as needed and assesses their attainment using reliable criteria. </li><li>Maintains federal and state reports regarding student assessment and progress. </li><li>Makes appropriate referrals when needed. </li><li>Coordinates special programs regarding educational needs and assessments within the Department. </li><li>Enters daily attendance into the Kentucky Offender Management System (KOMS) and maintains student information/data. </li><li>Maintains an accurate and complete inventory of all classroom equipment, tools, computers, and toxic- caustic supplies used within the classroom, and is responsible for monitoring student use of these items. </li><li>Participates in professional development activities to improve teaching skills. </li><li>Attends necessary educational staff meetings. </li><li>Actively involved in continuing career development. </li><li>Performs other assigned duties as required. </li></ul> <p>The ideal candidate should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, organization skills, technology skills, and have displayed the ability to complete work related activities in a professional manner. The ideal candidate should be able to multitask with the ability to plan, pay attention to detail, think critically and analyze data to forecast positive outcomes.
