<p>Description</p> <p>The City of Danbury is now hiring a Seasonal Parks Maintainerfor the Summer 2026 season.</p> <p>The City of Danbury is seeking Seasonal Park Maintainers to support the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of City parks, recreational facilities, and grounds. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled manual labor tasks related to landscaping, groundskeeping, and minor facility maintenance to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained public spaces.</p> <p>Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-level employee, with many tasks becoming routine after initial training. This position requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to perform physically demanding tasks on a consistent basis.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Maintain park grounds, including lawns, athletic fields, gardens, playgrounds, and recreational areas </li><li>Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, raking, planting, watering, and pruning trees and shrubs </li><li>Groom and line athletic fields, including baseball and soccer fields, on a routine basis </li><li>Clean and maintain park facilities, including benches, fencing, and public-use areas </li><li>Paint and repair park structures such as benches, tables, fences, and buildings </li><li>Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment, including mowers, tractors, blowers, rakes, rollers, and small trucks </li><li>Assist with seasonal operations such as leaf removal, snow removal, and ice control </li><li>Perform minor maintenance and basic repairs to tools and equipment </li><li>Load, unload, and transport materials, supplies, and equipment as needed </li><li>Support setup and breakdown of park events or recreational activities when required </li><li>Follow all safety procedures and report hazards, damages, or unsafe conditions </li><li>Perform related duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Must be at least 18 years of age </li><li>Ability to perform manual labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions </li><li>Basic knowledge of groundskeeping tools, equipment, and safety practices preferred </li><li>Ability to operate or learn to operate light equipment and vehicles </li><li>Ability to obtain a Connecticut Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required for all assignments </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team </li><li>Strong work ethic and reliability </li><li>Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment use and maintenance </li><li>Awareness of workplace safety practices </li><li>Ability to complete repetitive tasks efficiently and accurately </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation:</p> <ul> <li>Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching </li><li>Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance </li><li>Ability to operate equipment and tools requiring manual dexterity </li><li>Ability to work for extended periods outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, or inclement weather </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <ul> <li>Work is performed primarily outdoors in park and recreational settings </li><li>Exposure to weather conditions, noise from equipment, and environmental elements such as dust, grass, and debris </li><li>May involve working near active recreational areas and interacting with the public </li></ul> <p>Application Information</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>Application Submission:Applications must be submitted online at www.danbury-ct.gov/employment.
