<p>General Description</p> <p>As a Parking Service Meter Technician, you'll support the City of Madison Parking Division through a combination of revenue collection, parking equipment maintenance, and customer service. Your work helps ensure safe, dependable, and accessible parking for residents and visitors, while also safeguarding parking assets and securely managing public funds. This is semi-skilled, hands-on work that blends frontline responsibilities with technical field maintenance; performing mechanical, electrical, and operational tasks on parking meters, pay stations, and gated facilities. With frequent public interaction and a high level of independence, this role requires sound judgment and a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and accountability.</p> <p>What We're Looking For:</p> <ul> <li>Experience or aptitude in mechanical, electrical, or technical maintenance work </li><li>Strong attention to detail and accountability when handling cash and records </li><li>Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in the field </li><li>Comfortable interacting with the public and providing professional customer service </li><li>Commitment to safety standards and maintaining secure, dependable operations </li></ul> <p>Current recruitment will fill five (5) vacancies.</p> <p>Work Schedule:Monday - Friday,7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Even if every item on the job posting doesn't match your experience perfectly, we encourage you to apply and share how your skills and experience can best serve our community.</p> <p>Examples of Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Revenue Collection and Accountability</p> <ul> <li>Collect revenue from single and multi-space meters, gated facilities, and pay stations. </li><li>Verify collections through meter management andParking Access and Revenue Control Systems(PARCS) software; provide secure handling and transport of all monetary assets. </li><li>Detect, report, and document possible fraud, loss, or theft. </li><li>Inspect meters and pay stations for operational, vandalism, or tampering issues. </li><li>Deliver, track, and collect money bags from garages and drop safes. </li><li>Maintain accurate inventory and reconciliation logs. </li></ul> <p>Equipment Maintenance and Technical Support</p> <ul> <li>Respond to malfunctioning or vandalized equipment and coordinate for timely repair. </li><li>Install, service, and maintain parking meters, pay stations, gates, and associated infrastructure. </li><li>Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and software issues. </li><li>Replace locks, batteries, card readers, sensors, and circuit components as needed. </li><li>Perform preventive maintenance procedures on meter and pay station equipment, cash bags, locks, carts and canisters. </li></ul> <p>Recordkeeping, Communication, and Customer Support</p> <ul> <li>Maintain electronic and written records for collections, repairs. </li><li>Prepare and submit accurate reports, incident logs, and work orders. </li><li>Respond to inquiries courteously and professionally; assist patrons experiencing equipment or payment issues. </li><li>Assist with helpline coverage when needed. </li></ul> <p>Snow and Seasonal Operations</p> <ul> <li>Remove snow and ice from meter zones, garages, sidewalks, and access points using shovels, plows, and snow blowers. </li><li>Assist in garage snow chute clearing. </li><li>Assist with spring sand cleanup (garages and lots) </li><li>Perform landscape maintenance (mowing, weeding, etc.) </li></ul> <p>Miscellneaous Duties</p> <ul> <li>Support field projects, enforcement efforts, and special events as needed. </li><li>Assist with safety audits and facility inspections. </li><li>Maintain and repair parking lots, asphalt, curbs and islands. </li></ul> <p>Perform other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>One (1) year experience in the mechanical, electrical, and electronic operations of parking systems. </li><li>OR- </li></ul> <p>Two (2) years of experience applying the following:</p> <ul> <li>Varied public works or field based maintenance activities, including mechanical, electrical, and facility-related repair methods and materials. </li><li>Cash handling, reconciliation, and recordkeeping procedures. </li></ul> <p>Familiarity with:</p> <ul> <li>Use of basic hand and power tools. </li><li>Computer software applicable to the duties of the position, such as Microsoft Office including Outlook. </li></ul> <p>Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.</p> <p>The City of Madison strives to provide exceptional customer service to all its residents and visitors. Therefore, successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to effectively work with multicultural communities.</p> <p>Special Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a valid driver's license. </li><li>Ability to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work outdoors in all weather and traffic conditions. </li><li>Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull for extended periods of time. </li><li>Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs; push or maneuver coin carts up to 200 lbs. </li><li>Ability to climb stairs and ladders; enter confined spaces or booths. </li><li>Payroll title is Parking Equipment Mechanic. </li></ul>
