<p>BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB</p> <p>Performs in a training pharmacist role and provides chemotherapy and IV room technician support under the direct and continuous supervision of a pharmacist.</p> <p>REPORTS TO</p> <ul> <li>Director-Pharmacy </li></ul> <p>JOB REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities: NO</p> <p>Minimum Education: High School/GED Required</p> <p>License/Certification Required: NO</p> <p>Minimum Work Experience: Must be currently enrolled in a local ACPE Accredited College of Pharmacy. Previous East Tennessee Children's Hospital pharmacy technician experience preferred</p> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>General computer skills. </li><li>Strong math skills. </li></ul> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>All under the direct supervision of a pharmacist who is beyond his or her probationary period: </li><li>Trains to supervise pharmacy technicians. Gains proficiency in math calculations. </li><li>Prepares accurate labels utilizing the proper labeling format. Any remaining labels are destroyed upon completion of packaging medications. </li><li>Assesses and processes physician medication orders: Age appropriate criteria (i.e. dose), Appropriate route, duplication. Allergies, interactions, etc., Computer usage, Prioritizes stat or now orders. </li><li>Maintains accurate records of: Computerized patient profiles, Controlled substances,IV Compounder, Electronic cabinet, Pharmacy computer, Unit dose log, Other as indicated </li><li>Ensures equipment operation and maintenance of: IV Hoods, IV Computer, Electronic cabinet (omnicell), electronic Scale, printers and Computers </li><li>Maintains medication stock, including: IV fluids, Solid, liquid dosage forms, Electronic cabinet or floor stock, Orders medications/supplies appropriately, Stores medications/supplies appropriately, Nursing unit inspections, Crash carts and boxes, Outdated medications </li><li>Clinical Pharmacy Assessment (lab data, electrolytes, kinetics, etc.) </li><li>Performs and supervises all general and chemo technician competencies and duties </li><li>Prepares/selects age appropriate medication for compounding, filling, and dispensing </li><li>Fills patient medication envelopes with the correct medication from computer labels: Medications are delivered to the proper nursing units, ancillary departments, and pharmacy satellites. Takes appropriate steps (such as double checking and checking against a copy of the physician's order) to prevent dispensing errors. </li><li>Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Interacts with all of the above in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner as observed by coordinator and peers. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times </li><li>Continuously displays a "can do" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at the hospital. </li><li>Resolves questions with the Pharmacist, Nursing service, and/or Physician </li><li>Answers the phone promptly and appropriately. Promotes and maintains professional relationships with other departments </li><li>Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra- departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. </li><li>Fosters mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly manner as measured by management observation and peer input. </li><li>Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested. </li><li>Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. </li><li>Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required.
