<p>Calibration Specialist - QA Lab Tech II (Metrology)</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Calibration Specialist (Metrologist) ensures that all gages and tools used in maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities meet calibration requirements in compliance with FAA Part 145, OEM specifications, NIST traceability, and AS9100 standards. This role will track all tooling in the calibration system, manage calibration intervals, coordinate with external calibration vendors, and maintain audit-ready documentation to support regulatory compliance.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ensure calibration activities comply with FAA Part 145, OEM manuals, 14 CFR, and AC 145-9A. </li><li>Track and manage tool calibration status using GagePak or equivalent system. </li><li>Coordinate calibration of tools and equipment both in-house and through approved external laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025 preferred). </li><li>Maintain and update a NIST-traceable master tool list, ensuring accuracy and conformance to internal and regulatory requirements. </li><li>Create, review, and maintain complete and accurate calibration records; prepare documentation for regulatory/customer inspections and internal audits. </li><li>Collaborate with Engineering and Production to ensure tools meet OEM technical specifications. </li><li>Evaluate and troubleshoot instrumentation and calibration issues. </li><li>Conduct Gage R&R studies, measurement system analysis (MSA), and apply basic measurement uncertainty concepts. </li><li>Review and accept raw materials and tooling to ensure compliance with specifications. </li><li>Train and mentor technicians in proper tool handling, use, and storage to maintain calibration integrity. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED required, associate's degree in Metrology, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred. </li><li>Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience in calibration or metrology within an FAA-certified aerospace repair environment, preferably gas turbine engine maintenance. </li><li>Proficiency in cutting, mounting, polishing, and etching superalloys (e.g., Ni, Co, steel) for metallurgical evaluation. </li><li>Familiarity with Struers lab equipment (e.g., Secotom, Exotom, CitoVac, DuraScan, DuraJet). </li><li>Hands-on experience with light microscopy (Zeiss/Nikon) and SEM (Tescan/Mira/Vega) for component inspection. </li><li>Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. </li><li>Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing). </li><li>Strong understanding of quality systems (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001), OEM manuals, and aerospace tool control practices. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience supporting regulatory, industry standards (AS91XX) and customer audits. </li><li>Familiarity with calibration program development and MSA software tools. </li><li>Proficiency operating and writing programs for CMMs </li><li>Knowledge of engine OEMs like GE, Pratt & Whitney, or CFM International tooling requirements. </li></ul>
