If you thrive on complex systems, regulatory strategy, and high-stakes technical decision-making, this is where your work truly matters.</p> <p>A bachelor's degree in an engineering field; OR</p> <p>A master's degree in an engineering field or a chemical or physical science field.</p> <p>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.</p> <p>Job Duties: </p> <ul> <li> <p>Review air permit applications to determine applicable federal and state regulations and verify emissions calculations for industrial projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Draft major and minor source air permits including Title V, PSD, Acid Rain, and NSR actions, along with Statements of Basis.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluate control technologies by determining BACT/LAER requirements and requesting additional technical information from applicants as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare supplemental permit actions such as administrative amendments, variances, enforcement referrals, and public-facing documentation.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in meetings and site visits with industry, LDEQ staff, and the public, and assist in training new employees.</p> </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years), or promotion of a permanent classified employee.  If the position is filled as a job appointment, it could be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.</p> <p>Domicile: East Baton Rouge</p> <p>Career Progression:  This position may be filled as an Environmental Chemical Specialist 1, 2, 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.</p> <p>Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below.
