<p>The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Services has a vacancy.</p> <p>The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare.</p> <p>Step into a role where your engineering expertise directly shapes the future of Louisiana's petrochemical and manufacturing landscape. As an Air Permits Engineer, you'll apply advanced chemical and mechanical engineering principles to evaluate industrial projects, model emissions, and design air quality solutions that protect communities while supporting economic growth. If you thrive on complex systems, regulatory strategy, and high-stakes technical decision-making, this is where your work truly matters.</p> <p>A bachelor's degree in an engineering field; OR</p> <p>A master's degree in an engineering field or a chemical or physical science field.</p> <p>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.</p> <p>Job Duties: </p> <ul> <li> <p>Review air permit applications to determine applicable federal and state regulations and verify emissions calculations for industrial projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Draft major and minor source air permits including Title V, PSD, Acid Rain, and NSR actions, along with Statements of Basis.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluate control technologies by determining BACT/LAER requirements and requesting additional technical information from applicants as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare supplemental permit actions such as administrative amendments, variances, enforcement referrals, and public-facing documentation.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in meetings and site visits with industry, LDEQ staff, and the public, and assist in training new employees.</p> </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years), or promotion of a permanent classified employee. If the position is filled as a job appointment, it could be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.</p> <p>Domicile: East Baton Rouge</p> <p>Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Environmental Chemical Specialist 1, 2, 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.</p> <p>Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered.
