<p>The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach Jazz/Commercial Voice Lessons during the Fall and Spring semesters, 2025-26.</p> <p>Artist/Part-Time Instructor of Jazz/Commercial Voice Lessons.</p> <p>About The College of Visual and Performing Arts</p> <p>The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University is committed to the education of cultural leaders who will engage and inspire audiences through performance, visual art, design, scholarship, and commentary. To learn more about the college, our distinguished faculty, and our program, please visit our websites at www.syr.edu, www.vpa.syr.edu.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Relevant academic credentials and experience including:</p> <ul> <li>A minimum of a master's degree in music (jazz or commercial voice performance or equivalent experience preferred). </li><li>Experience teaching studio voice at the collegiate level. </li><li>Jazz/Commercial Music/Musical Theater Performance credentials. </li></ul> <p>Job Specific Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Significant piano skills required including the ability to accompany vocal students on piano (with swing, Latin, RnB, and other modern feels) when delivering instruction. </li><li>Ability to implement the use of music notation into private lesson instruction for the purpose of creating charts for student performance. </li><li>Background and ability to demonstrate the use of music notation software (Sibelius, Dorico, MuseScore, Noteflight) to assist with meeting students' notation requirements in lessons. </li></ul> <p>Job Specific Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>The candidate should have strong attention to detail, knowledge of course content, and demonstrated pedagogical ability, as well as the ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Being present and instructing weekly lessons during Fall and Spring semesters. </li><li>Set up lesson schedule. </li><li>Attend jazz faculty orientation meeting, and jazz faculty meetings throughout the semester (approximately 3 per semester). </li><li>Collaborate to build and maintain the jazz/commercial voice studio, including participation in Setnor School of Music recruitment events. </li><li>Develop and/or update a class syllabus. </li><li>Prepare student assignments. </li><li>Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. </li><li>Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. </li><li>Meet all designated class periods. </li><li>Participate in end-of-semester juries. </li><li>Participate in fall/spring audition days. </li><li>Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. </li><li>Grade student assignments and exams in timely manner. </li><li>Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. </li><li>Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty. </li><li>Support student performances at major jazz & commercial music events where possible. </li><li>If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. </li><li>You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume/curriculum vitae and cover letter.</p>
