<p>Position Title: Painter</p> <p>Salary Range: Regionally Competitive</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director of Facilities/Director of Buildings and Grounds</p> <p>Summary: Performs all aspects of interior and exterior painting for school facilities, including prepping, patching, sanding, lining, and repairing surfaces to maintain the aesthetic and functional quality of all corporation buildings and equipment.</p> <p>Principal Characteristics of Work: Duties are primarily focused on hands-on painting tasks and may occasionally include project planning, estimating, and collaboration with administrators to ensure project success. Responsibilities include painting all interior and exterior surfaces throughout the school corporation, including walls, ceilings, lockers, equipment, tracks, and courts. Tasks involve caulking, taping, floating, and sanding drywall and plaster walls, removing wallpaper and graffiti, and line striping parking lots and athletic surfaces.</p> <p>Painters operate various tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, pads, spray equipment, and line striping machines. A wide range of materials is used, including paints, stains, epoxy coatings, removers, thinners, reducers, and solvents. Painters are responsible for the care and maintenance of corporation-assigned tools and vehicles. Occasionally, painters may be required to plan and estimate painting projects, recommend tools and materials, and participate in professional training or safety meetings relevant to their trade.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, caulking, and applying primers or sealants as needed. </li><li>Apply paint, stain, epoxy, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment. </li><li>Mix paints and materials to achieve the desired color and consistency, ensuring even coverage. </li><li>Perform line striping on parking lots, courts, and athletic surfaces. </li><li>Inspect work areas to identify defects or areas needing further preparation or repair. </li><li>Remove wallpaper and graffiti from surfaces as needed. </li><li>Maintain and clean painting tools and equipment, and ensure safe storage and transportation. </li><li>Follow all safety protocols, including the use of PPE and proper handling of chemicals and solvents. </li><li>Collaborate with maintenance staff and supervisors to schedule and prioritize projects. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of completed work and assist in monitoring paint inventory. </li><li>Ensure all painting tasks are completed in compliance with relevant safety regulations, building codes, and quality standards. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Required Experience or Training: The candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in all phases of painting and decorating. A valid operator's license is required. The candidate must be able to lift up to 60 pounds without assistance and demonstrate basic knowledge of safety procedures related to painting operations. </li><li>Desired Experience or Training: Preferred qualifications include completion of a formal painting apprenticeship or equivalent post-secondary training. Familiarity with specialized coatings and application techniques is desired, as is the ability to prepare estimates and project timelines for painting assignments. </li><li>Special Requirements: Candidates should have practical knowledge of surface preparation and paint application methods. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with maintenance personnel is essential. Candidates must also demonstrate strong recordkeeping skills and the ability to follow established schedules to ensure timely and quality completion of all tasks. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Mental Demands: Must be able to understand and comply with various regulatory requirements, including Building Codes, Occupational Safety and Health standards, Environmental Protection standards, and local health and sanitation regulations. </li><li>Physical Demands: Must be able to work from ladders, in confined and cramped spaces, on building rooftops, and in basements. Must be able to lift to 60 pounds without assistance. </li><li>Environmental Conditions: Work is primarily conducted indoors in controlled environments. Occasionally, painters may be required to work outdoors and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions when performing exterior painting tasks. Must be able to work regular scheduled hours and manage time-sensitive responsibilities under pressure. Must be able to handle stress. </li></ul>
