<p>Job Summary</p> <p>Education Programs tutors work with children in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade (literacy) and ninth grade (math), within Oberlin City School District classrooms and community after school programs in Lorain County. Tutors work with children on literacy and/or mathematical concepts and includes tutoring and enrichment programming. Tutors may work with children in small groups or one-on-one, to support mathematics or in after school programs to assist with homework and enrichment activities. This is a paid position for Oberlin College students who have a Federal Work Study Award and are selected to work within this program, via a competitive application process.</p> <p>Program Description: Tutors are hired, trained and placed within Oberlin City School District (OCSD) classrooms or community after school programs. Tutors work a consistent schedule based on the needs of teachers within OCSD, program directors in after school programs, and Oberlin College student academic and extra curricular schedule. Tutors are offered ongoing, paid (required) training opportunities and meetings to learn tutoring techniques, review state and local educational policy, student development, and professional development for career success. Tutors are required to complete a designated number of trainings and tutor group meetings and complete all surveys or reports requested by program staff. The Education program is directed by Susan Pavlus, Director of Education Programs at the Bonner Center.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Report to assigned site/classroom during scheduled times, ready to engage with children and support literacy and/or mathematics</p> <ul> <li>Sign in (electronically on Google Form) and out at site at each session and log in/out of Time Clock Plus application each work session </li><li>Attend group meetings and trainings </li><li>Report any absence to program staff, tutor leader, classroom teacher and/or site program director at least 2 hours before and via the preferred method of communication for each person • Spend tutoring time working with children on concepts and preparing for upcoming sessions with children </li><li>Provide documentation or information to classroom teacher, site director, tutor leader and program staff as requested, within the expressed time frame </li><li>Report any concerning behavior from children, as outlined within tutor training, and concerns regarding the supervision of children within school district or after school programs </li><li>Suggest resources and training topics to program staff and tutor leaders to best support working with children </li></ul> <p>The Education Tutoring program functions within the OCSD during school hours, approximately 8:00 am until 3:15 pm, and within after school programs from 2:00-5:30 pm. Tutors, based on schedule and needs of the district and Lorain County after school programs, will be placed within grade levels and time frames that are mutually beneficial to the Oberlin College student, OCSD and Lorain County after school programs. Tutoring schedules must be consistent and weekly time commitments can range from 2-10 hours, depending on needs of OC student and school district and/or after school program. Schedules will be determined by program staff and communicated to student at the start of the semester, or shortly after being hired by the program.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Oberlin College students with Federal Work Study Awards and/or Bonner Scholars.
