Orange County Government is committed to providing equal opportunity in employment and services to all individuals.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>General Functions</p> <p>Performs complex repairs, maintenance, construction and inspection of traffic signal systems and equipment.</p> <p>May work independently using considerable judgment and initiative in accomplishing work assignments under the general direction of the Signal Shop Supervision staff. Performance is assessed through conferences, observations, and results achieved.</p> <p>Representative Duties/Assignments</p> <ul> <li>Responds to traffic signal malfunctions, diagnosis problems and repairs or replaces defective system components. </li><li>Performs the installation of detection, communication and signal cable on overhead span or in underground conduit for traffic signal systems that include but are not limited to signal monitoring, wireless radio, fiber optic networking and alternative vehicle detection (video, microwave, inductive loop and radar). </li><li>Performs the installation, identification ("locate"), preventative maintenance, diagnosis and repair of traffic signal equipment that may include cabinet assemblies, overhead signs, pedestrian signals, school crossing and warning beacons. </li><li>Programs electronic signal control equipment either by keypad or laptop computer. Compiles and produces reports of the statistical data from the traffic signal controller, and performs conflict monitor testing. </li><li>Operates hand and power tools, such as drill, chain hoist, loop sealant applicator, concrete pavement saw, and voltmeter </li><li>Operates a lift or bucket truck, auger truck, cranes, forklift or trencher. Operates aerial lift or bucket truck at heights of up to 40 feet. </li><li>Completes field reports and other service-related paperwork that may include time and materials used, failure/repair data, and follow-up actions that may be required. </li><li>Works in the shop to assemble or repair signal heads and related hardware using related electronic and analyzer test equipment. Changes traffic signal bulbs and cleans lenses. Cleans, paints and refurbishes traffic signal components. </li><li>Designs and builds special cabinets for detector and speed actuation warning signals and other special signals as needed. Creates schematics of cabinets for future use. </li><li>Duties require occasionally moving, lifting, pushing or pulling signal equipment up to 60 pounds. </li><li>Work is regularly performed outside, frequently in adverse weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain, and wind. </li><li>Performs other related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Traffic Signal Technician I</p> <p>High school graduate or equivalent and documented completion of vocational training in construction, electricity or electronics; or one year of related experience may be substituted for the vocational training.</p> <p>Must pass the Traffic Signal Technician I entry level test at 70% or greater within 6 months of hire.</p> <p>Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.</p> <p>Must obtain and maintain the State Maintenance of Traffic training within three months from date of hire.</p> <p>Must obtain and maintain the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I certification within 12 months from date of hire.</p> <p>Must work over-time, be on standby or on-call as directed by Foreman and/or Management.</p> <p>Traffic Signal Technician II</p> <p>High school graduate or equivalent, documented completion of vocational training in construction, electricity or electronics and one year of experience in electronics and or traffic signal technology. An additional year of the specified experience can be substituted for the vocational training.</p> <p>Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.</p> <p>Must pass the Traffic Signal Technician II written test at 70% or greater and the Traffic Signal Technician II skills test at 70% or greater.</p> <p>Must possess and maintain the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Level I and Level II certification.</p> <p>Must possess and maintain certification by the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) for Work Zone Safety or State Maintenance of Traffic Training.</p> <p>Must work over-time, be on standby or on-call as directed by Foreman and/or Management.</p> <p>Duties require occasionally moving, lifting, pushing or pulling signal equipment up to 60 pounds.</p> <p>Work is regularly performed outside, frequently in adverse weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain, and wind.</p> <p>Work is performed adjacent to traffic and may be in an aerial lift or bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet.</p> <p>Traffic Signal Technician III</p> <p>High school graduate or equivalent, documented completion of vocational training in construction, electricity or electronics and three years of appropriate experience in the traffic signal field.
