<p>Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Professional and Technical Education: Carpentry 7-12 Teacher for the school year 2025-2026. Working under the direction of the Supervisor of Career and Technical Education Supervisor, this position assists in the delivery of the carpentry program at Dorchester Career & Technology Center by providing the strategies, resources, and instruction that will increase student proficiency on local and industry recognized assessments.</p> <p>DUTIES:</p> <p>The teacher is responsible for creating a supporting educational atmosphere that empowers students to reach their full potential in intellectual and skill development. This teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in a hands-on, contextual learning environment while also developing workplace skills in the trade area. Primary responsibilities are:</p> <ul> <li>Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. </li><li>Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying learning styles, ethics, social and economic backgrounds, and special needs. </li><li>Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement. </li><li>Team teaches with instructional team members. </li><li>Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures to grant credit by demonstrated proficiency. </li><li>Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process. </li><li>Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents and other professionals on a regular basis. </li><li>Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment to maximize the outcomes for each student. </li><li>Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers and the community. </li><li>Models workplace maturity in leading students' development toward positive workplace skills and attitudes. </li><li>Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program. </li><li>Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents and partner schools. </li><li>Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals. </li><li>Demonstrates gains in student performance and job placement. </li><li>Participates in training as required. </li><li>Meets professional obligations and in-services through efficient work habits, such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, developing shared lessons and delivering instruction with co-teaching partners. </li><li>Establishes an active partnership with a trade-related Program Advisory Council (PAC) to stay abreast of current and improved techniques, trends, and products, for curriculum updates. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>A high school diploma or equivalency. </li><li>Be eligible for a Maryland State Department of Education Professional teaching certificate in Professional and Technical Education: Carpentry 7-12 within two (2) or four (4) years, depending on necessary credits. </li><li>Able to operate equipment/machinery as needed in the instruction of the trade. </li><li>Knowledge of Dorchester County Public Schools curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, Dorchester County Public Schools policies, and effective instructional practice. </li><li>Able to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, staff, students, parents and the community. </li><li>Have excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. </li></ul>
