<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Ledyard Middle School is seeking a Social Studies teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the School Principal to develop students' skills and competence in the field of social studies. This is to fill an anticipated opening.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Establishes and adjusts instructional goals and objectives, to reflect district/school goals, curriculum policies, and the knowledge, skills, progress, and needs of one's students </li><li>Designs lessons that provide opportunity for problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills in relation to authentic, real world problems </li><li>Establishes and maintains standards for behavior that foster student self-discipline and positive relationships among students </li><li>Commits to on-going professional development in content area and pedagogy </li><li>Plans learning activities to address individual differences among students </li><li>Develops, administers, and evaluates quality formative and summative assessments that reflect a balance of content knowledge and problem-solving skills </li><li>Monitors and evaluates students' progress in relation to district/school curriculum policies and other planned goals and objectives (Intro to SS, Cultural Geography, US History) </li><li>Encourages, secures and maintains the involvement of parents and other community members in support of instruction </li><li>Communicates student progress </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Required Connecticut certification: History/Social Studies, (026 or 226) </li><li>Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment is required </li><li>Master's Degree in related area preferred </li><li>Successful prior social studies teaching experience preferred </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. </li></ul> <p>Salary and Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Per the Ledyard Education Association agreement. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach </li><li>Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times </li><li>Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child </li></ul> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Applications will only be accepted online.
