The City covers 3.25 square miles primarily between the Bayshore (101) and Junipero Serra (280) Freeways. Millbrae is a suburban, residential community that is essentially built out with 70% of the City's 8,200 dwelling units comprised of single-family units.</p> <p>Millbrae retains its "small town" feel while its economy continues to expand, as it remains linked to the growing airport and related tourism. The City planned a major downtown revitalization with the arrival of the new San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Station.</p> <p>A five-member City Council elected to four-year overlapping terms governs the City Government, incorporated in 1948. The City Council appoints the City Manager who serves as the City's chief executive officer. Millbrae is a general law city. Department Heads are appointed by the City Manager. The City is organized into the following departments, which provide direct City services: Community Development, Finance, Administration, Administrative Services, Recreation, and Public Works. Administration includes the executive and legislative offices as well as legal services. Administrative Services includes Human Resources and the City Clerk. Contribute to innovative planning policies, vibrant economic strategies, and the beautification of open spaces, paving the way for a dynamic and flourishing future.</p> <p>To learn more about us, please visit our website by ci.millbrae.ca.us</p> <p>About the Opportunity</p> <p>The City of Millbrae is looking for a full-time Deputy Finance Director based in Millbrae, California.</p> <p>Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and supporting citywide financial initiatives.</p> <p>In this position, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing departmental functions, supervising staff, and supporting the Finance Director in budget development, auditing, and financial planning activities.</p> <p>More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Leading or supporting the annual audit and year-end financial close </li><li>Planning, coordinating, and managing the daily operations of assigned finance functions </li><li>Supervising, training, evaluating, and mentoring departmental staff </li><li>Assisting in budget preparation, cost allocation, and fee schedule development </li><li>Overseeing investment activities and preparing quarterly reports for Council </li><li>Providing complex financial analysis and reports to internal and external stakeholders </li><li>Coordinating financial systems and advising on fiscal policies and procedures </li><li>Representing the department at City Council meetings and during labor negotiations </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>To read the full position description, please click here</p> <p>More About You</p> <p>Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.</p> <p>Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, including 3+ years in a supervisory or management capacity.</p> <p>Licenses: Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) certificate are highly desirable.</p> <p>Speak clearly and understandably; operate standard computer programs and financial systems. Ability to work in a standard office environment, travel to various locations within and outside the City of Millbrae to meet program needs, and work additional hours to meet deadlines. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Must be able to actively participate in evening meetings and respond to department needs as required.</p> <p>Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices (GAAP) </li><li>Understanding of municipal budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting </li><li>Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and financial information systems </li><li>Skill in supervising, mentoring, and evaluating staff performance </li><li>Ability to analyze and prepare complex fiscal and investment reports </li><li>Competence in coordinating year-end closes and audits </li><li>Strong grasp of public administration and financial policy development </li><li>Proficiency in customer service and interdepartmental communication </li><li>Experience working with self-insurance programs and labor negotiation costing </li><li>Ability to apply federal, state, and local financial regulations effectively </li></ul> <p>As our ideal candidate, you will possess excellent analytical skills, a collaborative approach to leadership, and the confidence to support and advise teams across departments.
