<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION TITLE: LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST - Greene Hills School (Gr. K-5)</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: TEACHER</p> <p>REPORTS TO: SCHOOL PRINCIPAL</p> <p>SUMMARY: To provide all students with a diverse library media program containing a wide variety of materials that will invite intellectual growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Operates and supervises the media center(s) to which he/she is assigned. </li><li>Evaluates, selects and requisitions new media center materials. </li><li>Assists teachers in the selection of books, electronic resources, computer programs and other instructional materials and makes media center materials available to supplement the instructional program. </li><li>Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the media center acquires. </li><li>Maintains and instructs students/teachers how to access Destiny, the online library catalog. </li><li>Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers. </li><li>Collaborates with teachers in planning standards-based instruction for information literacy and use of information and technological tools </li><li>Promotes appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities. </li><li>Helps students to develop habits of independent information literacy work and to develop skill in the use of print and digital reference materials in relation to planned assignments. </li><li>Collaborates with teachers to support learning. </li><li>Supports all students with diverse needs </li><li>Advocates for and designs independent reading promotion programming </li><li>Prepares and administers the media center budget. </li><li>Supervises media center staff in the performance of their duties. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Supervises classroom and students (volunteers and parent helpers where appropriate). Performs general supervisory duties as scheduled.</p> <p>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree. </li><li>Additional credits required for completion of certification requirements. </li></ul> <p>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:</p> <p>Valid Connecticut Library Media Specialist (062) Teaching Certificate.</p> <p>LANGUAGE SKILLS:</p> <p>Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write memos, reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents and the general public.</p> <p>MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:</p> <p>Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.</p> <p>COMPUTER SKILLS:</p> <p>Basic knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications including library automation systems and electronic resources for research.
