<p>JOB TITLE: Information Literacy Specialist WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Principal</p> <p>DEPT. /SCHOOL: San Marcos High School DATE REVISED: 04/28/2021</p> <p>PRIMARY PURPOSE:</p> <p>Supervise and manage the school library media-center. Provide all students and faculty with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth, promote literacy and technology integration into the teaching and learning process. Provide visionary leadership in learning resources and instructional support to work with students, faculties, families and communities. Serve as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to involve the library media center in the instructional and future-readiness programs of the school.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education/Certification:</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree From Accredited College or University</p> <p>Valid Texas Librarian or Learning Resources Specialist Certificate/Endorsement or work experience in library sciences, Educational technology, or digital media areas from an ALA accredited graduate program preferred</p> <p>Special Knowledge/Skills:</p> <p>Knowledge of Library Science</p> <p>Strong Organizational, Communication, and Interpersonal Skills</p> <p>Ability to instruct and manage student behavior</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>Three years of experience as a classroom teacher required</p> <p>Work experience in library media center in public school setting preferred but not required</p> <p>MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Effectively plan the school library program to meet identified needs. </li><li>Participates in setting the school district's vision and strategic plan for digital learning and fosters a culture of collaboration and innovation to drive teaching and learning. </li><li>Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students. </li><li>Creates inclusive collections that acknowledge and celebrate diverse experiences </li><li>Perform ongoing collection development and withdrawal of library materials in accordance with SMCISD policies and de-selection guidelines. </li><li>Develop a quality collection of physical and online resources and equipment based on an analysis of campus needs and available funding. </li><li>Collaborate with classroom teachers in designing, implementing, and evaluating instruction that ensures integration of literature, reference and research skills, information literacy skills, and technologies into student learning. </li><li>Integrate elements of deeper learning, critical thinking, information literacy, digital citizenship, creativity, innovation, and the active use of technology </li><li>Leads in the selection, integration, organization, and sharing of digital resources and tools to support transformational teaching and learning and develops the digital curation skills of others. </li><li>Work collaboratively to design, lead, and support a campus-based professional development plan around technology-rich instruction to facilitate personalized learning for students and capacity building for teachers. </li><li>Partners with educators to design and implement evidence-based curricula </li><li>Collaborate with teachers to integrate information problem-solving skills into subject areas and team teaching, as appropriate. </li><li>Encourages and facilitates students to become increasingly self-directed as they create digital products of their learning that engage them in critical thinking, collaboration, and authentic real-world problem solving. </li><li>Perform administrative functions necessary for the management of the library media center, such as overseeing volunteers, student aides and other library staff as applicable; attending faculty and other campus related meetings and events. </li><li>Assists in formulating library goals and objectives for services to students and staff; collaborates on updates to the library section of the district web page; and promotes library programs and events using social media. </li><li>Demonstrated willingness to respond to new opportunities with initiative and creative energy. </li><li>Leads professional learning to cultivate broader understanding of the skills that comprise success in a digital age (e.g.,critical thinking, information literacy, digital citizenship, technology). </li><li>Develop and promote a culture of innovation for future-ready programs. </li><li>Cultivates partnerships within the school and local community (including families and caregivers, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, public and higher education libraries, businesses) to promote engagement and a community of readers. </li><li>Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plans. </li><li>Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and colleagues. </li><li>Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations. </li><li>Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents. </li><li>Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities. </li><li>Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library media program and implement changes based on the findings. </li><li>Administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations. </li><li>Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward the school library. </li><li>Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. </li><li>Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs. </li><li>Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement. </li><li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Supervise clerical aide(s), student aides, and volunteers</p> <p>EQUIPMENT USED:</p> <p>Copier, computing devices, adaptive software, interactive flat panel</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <p>Mental Demands:</p> <p>Ability to communicate (verbally and written);
