<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Description: Grade 5-8 History and Social Studies teacher</p> <p>School Community:</p> <p>Sharon Center School is an EK-8 elementary school in rural Northwest Connecticut and is part of the Region One School District. Our 5th through 8th grade population is approximately 35 students. We are committed to providing an engaging, rigorous, and supportive learning experience for all learners.</p> <p>Job Summary:</p> <p>We are seeking a dynamic educator to join our middle school team as part of a co-taught Humanities program. This position includes teaching history and social studies content to students in grades 5-8 through an inquiry-based, student-centered instructional approach. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in middle school social studies instruction, is well-versed in inquiry pedagogy, and is excited to collaborate with a partner teacher to design integrated Humanities learning experiences that inspire students to think critically, read deeply, write with purpose, and engage meaningfully in discussion.</p> <p>The successful candidate will join a collaborative and energized middle school team that works together to support students' academic growth and social-emotional well-being. Teachers at Sharon Center School celebrate students' strengths and interests, design instruction that engages all learners, and consistently use student learning data to inform and adjust instruction. The ideal candidate communicates effectively with students, families, and colleagues and fosters strong partnerships that support student success.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver inquiry-based instruction in social studies and history within a co-taught Humanities model. </li><li>Set goals for student learning that align with curriculum and the school improvement plan. </li><li>Collaborate with partner Humanities teacher and middle school colleagues to design engaging, interdisciplinary learning experiences. </li><li>Serve as an advocate for students' academic and social-emotional needs. </li><li>Serve as a role model through actions and behaviors. </li><li>Plan daily instructional activities responsive to the diverse strengths and needs of students. </li><li>Select, create, and utilize instructional materials and primary sources that stimulate inquiry and deepen understanding. </li><li>Demonstrate strong content knowledge and alignment with the Connecticut Core Standards and CT Social Studies Frameworks. </li><li>Develop and administer formative and summative assessments using multiple tools to monitor student learning and adjust instruction based on data. </li><li>Create a learner-centered, safe, and supportive classroom environment with restorative, proactive, consistent classroom management. </li><li>Supervise and support students across various school environments to maintain a postive school climate. </li><li>Maintain professionalism in all interactions with students, families, colleagues, and community partners. </li><li>Maintain accurate records for student performance; communicate regularly with students and their families about progress. </li><li>Stay informed of current educational trends, research, and best practices related to inquiry-based social studies instruction and effective middle school pedagogy. </li><li>Integrate technology effectively to support instruction and enhance student learning. </li><li>Establish clear learning objectives and communicate them effectively to students. </li><li>Engage in ongoing collaboration and communication with all stakeholders. </li><li>Develop professional relationships with other agencies and programs. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>CT Certification in History & Social Studies 4-8 (#226) and History & Social Studies 7-12 (#026) </li><li>Submit to background checks through Federal/State fingerprinting, DCF, and previous employers per State of CT Statutes </li></ul> <p>Application/Interview Procedure:</p> <ul> <li>Apply online; click JobID: 1664 </li><li>Applicants will be screened on an ongoing basis; early applications are encouraged. </li><li>Interviews with a possible second interview and sample lesson. </li></ul> <p>For more information, please contact Principal Carol Tomkalski at ctomkalski@sharoncenterschool.org.</p>
