Serve with Excellence.</p> <p>Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD) is seeking dynamic, experienced, and mission-driven fire service professionals to apply for the position of Battalion Chief. Join a team of leaders dedicated to building a safer community through service excellence.</p> <p>Under the direction of the District Chief, the Battalion Chief oversees assigned battalions and is responsible for managing fire department operations, personnel, and resources during an assigned shift. This command-level position ensures operational readiness, leads emergency responses, supervises company officers, apparatus operators, and firefighters, and plays a pivotal role in strategic planning, mentoring, and community risk reduction efforts.</p> <p>This position is part of the department's critical workforce and may serve as an Incident Commander, Branch Director, or Division/Group Supervisor during critical incidents and may be assigned to special projects or administrative duties in support of the department's mission, vision, and values.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Support and uphold the mission, vision, and values of the department with high ethical and moral standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead, supervise, and mentor assigned fire personnel; conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.</p> </li><li> <p>Direct emergency operations including fire suppression, rescue, medical, and hazardous materials response; serve in command roles as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage daily staffing and scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and policy compliance.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee training, inspections, station operations, and ensure readiness of apparatus, equipment, and facilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and professional development</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as a liaison between operational personnel and executive staff</p> </li><li> <p>Support strategic planning, budget development, and operational improvement initiatives</p> </li><li> <p>8 years of continuous, full-time paid experience in a municipal or county career fire department</p> </li><li> <p>8 years of full-time paid experience as a certified front-line structural firefighter</p> </li><li> <p>2 years of full-time paid experience as a pumper and aerial driver/operator</p> </li><li> <p>3 years as a full-time paid Fire Captain of an operational fire company</p> </li><li> <p>3 years of experience instructing fire related topics that demonstrates the required knowledge, abilities, behaviors, and traits to successfully perform the essential function of a lead fire instructor</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated experience in increasing leadership responsibility and supporting organizational goals</p> </li><li> <p>Valid Georgia Class F driver's license (or equivalent)</p> </li><li> <p>Georgia Certified Firefighter (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)</p> </li><li> <p>Georgia Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) license (or National Registry EMT-B with ability to obtain GA license reciprocity within 30 days)</p> </li><li> <p>Required NPQ or IFSAC certifications in:</p> </li><li> <p>Firefighter 1 and 2</p> </li><li> <p>Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations</p> </li><li> <p>Fire Instructor 1</p> </li><li> <p>Apparatus Driver/Operator Pumper and Aerial</p> </li><li> <p>Fire Officer 3</p> </li><li> <p>Incident Safety Officer</p> </li><li> <p>GFSTC NPQ Evaluator</p> </li><li> <p>NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 (current versions)</p> </li><li> <p>CCFD Company Officer Academy or must successfully pass within 180 days of hire</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a fire service field of study </li><li>Georgia EMT-Paramedic License or National Registry EMTP with ability to obtain GA license within 30 days) </li><li>Georgia Certified Fire Investigator </li><li>Georgia Certified Fire Inspector </li><li>NFA Executive Fire Officer (EFO) and CPSE Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation </li><li>Experience serving on an Incident Management Team or in a regional command structure </li><li>Experience with CFAI/CPSE accreditation standards and strategic planning models </li></ul> <p>Lateral Hire Requirements (if applicable)</p> <ul> <li>Must have successfully completed a career fire academy with a minimum of 800 training hours. </li><li>Successful completion of the CCFD lateral academy </li><li>One-year probationary period </li></ul> <p>Additional Eligibility Criteria</p> <ul> <li>U.S. Citizenship </li><li>High School Diploma or GED </li><li>18 years of age or older </li><li>Must meet all licensing and certification requirements at time of application </li><li>Successful completion of pre-employment evaluations: </li><li>Written examination </li><li>Physical agility test </li><li>Interview </li><li>NFPA 1582 medical evaluation </li><li>Drug screening </li><li>Background and driving history check </li><li>Successful completion of the CCFD Battalion Chief Assessment Center </li></ul> <p>Why Join Chatham County Fire Department?</p> <ul> <li>Lead in a progressive and supportive command structure </li><li>Impact lives and shape the next generation of fire professionals </li><li>Be part of a department driven by integrity, innovation, and service </li><li>Competitive compensation and benefits package </li><li>Opportunities for professional growth and advancement </li></ul> <p>Apply Now</p> <p>If you're ready to lead with purpose and make a lasting impact, we invite you to submit your application and supporting documentation through the Chatham County Human Resources portal.</p> <p>https://jobs.chathamcounty.org </p> <p>For questions or more information, please contact Chatham County Fire Department administrative office at (912) 219-0420.</p>
