GHJ's relationship with our Global Advisory and Accounting Network provides the resources needed to better understand client's needs, attract a higher caliber of candidates and assess candidate potential.</p> <p>We're working with a mission-driven real estate development organization seeking a Senior Development Accountant to support the financial operations of new construction, acquisition/rehab, and complex development projects. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role will focus on projects in active development-handling everything from predevelopment through construction close-out, reorgs, and refinancings. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with project accounting, strong working knowledge of construction financing, and comfort with GAAP. This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative, high-impact accounting team that partners closely with development and construction stakeholders.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Monthly Close & General Ledger </li><li>Prepare timely, GAAP-compliant financial statements and journal entries </li><li>Perform detailed reconciliations for: prepaids, accruals, and debt/interest; fixed asset capitalization; project funding draws and cash receipts; insurance claims, pay apps, reserves, and intercompany transfers </li><li>Review and approve AP entries; prepare internal wire and funding approvals </li><li>Ensure accurate classification of construction and development transactions </li><li>Construction Draws & Reporting </li><li>Lead monthly construction draws (internal and external sources) </li><li>Set up draw budgets and mapping in collaboration with Project Managers </li><li>Record and reconcile general contractor activity and retention accruals </li><li>Maintain accurate tracking for capital contributions and equity payments </li><li>Audit & Compliance </li><li>Prepare year-end audit workbooks and financial packages </li><li>Support cost audits for projects at completion </li><li>Respond to auditor requests and manage documentation under manager guidance </li><li>Specialized & Ad Hoc Reporting </li><li>Support senior management and board reporting on: construction progress, intercompany lending, and placed-in-service milestones; predevelopment draw summaries and capital analysis </li><li>Contribute to ad hoc financial reporting for external partners and funders </li></ul> <p>What You'll Bring</p> <ul> <li>5+ years of project accounting or real estate/construction accounting experience </li><li>Strong understanding of GAAP; affordable housing or nonprofit experience a plus </li><li>Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, reconciliations) </li><li>Proactive mindset and ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, team environment </li><li>Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills </li><li>Affordable housing and/or HUD accounting experience is a huge plus </li></ul> <p>$95,000 - $115,000 a year</p> <p>This is a meaningful opportunity to work at the intersection of finance and impact, helping deliver affordable and sustainable housing in communities that need it most.
