<p>SUMMARY: Provides instructional leadership to staff including curriculum planning, review and implementation; and professional development. Responsible for building administration and the safety and welfare of both students and staff.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates sound judgement and emotional stability. </li><li>Maintains a positive attitude and works well with others. </li><li>Ensures the safety of students. </li><li>Interacts with staff, students and the community in a positive and respectful manner. </li><li>Serves as the overall instructional leader of the building. </li><li>Implements Board of Education policies, procedures and guidelines that result in an effective environment where learning occurs. </li><li>Coordinates responsibilities of all building-level administrators. </li><li>Responsible for overall staff supervision, hiring and evaluation. </li><li>Responsible for overall building discipline and the maintenance of a positive, secure learning environment. </li><li>Oversees curriculum implementation at the middle school level. </li><li>Serves as liaison between the building and the Central Office/Board of Education. </li><li>Serves as liaison between the building and the community. </li><li>Directs the activities of school staff members. </li><li>Supervises the operations of the buildings, grounds and other school property. </li><li>Establishes and maintains a positive public relations program. </li><li>Directs, oversees, supervises and evaluates the instructional and guidance programs and the work schedule for all assigned personnel. </li><li>Establishes guidelines for proper student conduct, attire and discipline. </li><li>Monitors and resolves problems with student attendance. </li><li>Plans and supervises fire and tornado drills and other emergency preparedness programs. </li><li>Recommends to the Superintendent continuation or non-continuation of employment of teaching staff. </li><li>Conducts regular staff meetings. </li><li>Attends special events, functions and athletic events. </li><li>Supervises the maintenance of student records. </li><li>Organizes, administers and directs all student activities. </li><li>Responsible for the requisition of supplies, textbooks, equipment and other necessary material. </li><li>Prepares and submits the building budgetary request. </li><li>Monitors the expenditure of funds. </li><li>Responsible for the registration, assignment, promotion and/or retention of all students. </li><li>Directs and coordinates the classified staff assigned to the middle school. </li><li>Oversees the recording and reporting of all building employee leaves of absence. </li><li>Schedules educational assemblies for the student population. </li><li>Oversees staff assignments and assists in the development of the master schedule. </li><li>Counsels students regarding their academic, social and personal issues in cooperation with school counselors. </li><li>Responds to, and appropriately handles, parent concerns. </li><li>Cooperates with juvenile court authorities and other law and social enforcement agencies. </li><li>Appraises the performance of teachers through class visits and conferences for the purpose of improving instruction. </li><li>Informs teachers and other employees regarding school policy and its intended purpose. </li><li>Plans and schedules school events. </li><li>Prepares all reports and maintains such records as required by school law, regulation or request of the Superintendent. </li><li>Assists in the selection, retention and promotion of certified and non-certified personnel assigned to the middle school. </li><li>Develops and enforces policies regarding proper protection of equipment and property, observance of school laws, and safety procedures. </li><li>Ensures that after-school activities are chaperoned and that the building is closed after such activities have concluded. </li><li>Reports serious accidents, burglaries and incidents of an unusual nature to the proper authorities as quickly as possible. </li><li>Coordinates in-service education programs for the middle school staff. </li><li>Introduces certified personnel to the school and community. </li><li>Makes contact with the public with tact and diplomacy. </li><li>Maintains respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student files, student IEPs, medical records, personnel files, documentation for legal proceedings. </li><li>Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents. </li><li>Promotes good public relations. </li><li>Other duties as assigned by supervisor. </li></ul> <p>OTHER DUTIES AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Manages subordinate supervisors and supervises all employees in the middle school. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit. Also, directly supervises non-supervisory employees. </li><li>Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. </li><li>Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. </li><li>Recommends courses to be taught and other teaching resources. </li><li>Serves as a role model for students. </li><li>Responds to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in Education. </li><li>Appropriate State of Ohio certification/license. </li><li>Five to 10 years of successful classroom teaching and building administration experience preferred. </li><li>Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate. </li></ul> <p>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Middle School Principal License is required.</p>
