<p>HEAD BASEBALL COACH/CASTLETON GRADE 12</p> <p>VSC-UP PAT BARGAINING UNIT EXEMPT</p> <p>BASIC FUNCTION</p> <p>The head baseball coach is responsible for the general oversight and leadership of all aspects of the baseball program.</p> <p>CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>The coach will manage the daily operations of a NCAA Division III baseball program under the guidelines established by Vermont State University, NCAA and the Little East Conference. </li><li>Responsibilities include, but not limited to, practice and game preparation, the supervision of the assistant coaching staff, recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes, overseeing the academic success and student-athlete welfare. </li><li>Assist in the care and maintenance of the baseball field. </li><li>Manage team travel including transportation, lodging and meals. </li><li>Actively engage in alumni relations and fundraising activities. </li><li>Perform other administrative duties within the Athletics and Recreation Department as assigned. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED</p> <p>General supervision is received from the Director of Athletics.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED</p> <p>General supervision over part-time assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student workers and student interns.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in sports administration, recreation, physical education, or other appropriate discipline with a master's degree desirable, plus two to four years relevant experience in coaching, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES</p> <p>Knowledge:</p> <ul> <li>Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. </li><li>Ability to deal effectively with students, college personnel, as well as professional NCAA compliance network and others outside of the university. </li><li>Understanding of the educational goals and objectives of Vermont State University including attention to accessibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion. </li><li>Understanding of the psychological and cultural characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students, particularly in a rural setting. </li><li>Awareness of developmental, holistic, and proactive approaches to student success. </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Strong and varied technical skills and interest in recreational activities. </li><li>Broad base of knowledge and skills related to athletic facilities, management, coaching, recruiting and other relevant experience. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. </li><li>Experience with (or ability to learn) technologies such as SSE, Colleague, Self-Service, Slate, Microsoft products, and Perceptive Content. </li><li>Proven record of accountability and follow-through with the ability to meet deadlines. </li><li>Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. </li></ul> <p>Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to positively influence student skill development, such as communication skills, leadership skills, academic skills, technical skills, non-cognitive or 'soft' skills, and social skills. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to foster student development in the attainment of student success goals, such as academic purpose, sense of belonging/identity, agency, career readiness, civic readiness, access & equity. </li><li>Demonstrated positive attitude regarding Vermont State University and a desire to improve student outcomes, including attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals within the University and capacity to work as part of a team to collaborate and choose student success. </li><li>Ability to collaborate effectively with college personnel as well as external stakeholders in carrying out the various coordination, liaison, and other aspects of the job. </li><li>Ability to work weekends and evenings. </li></ul> <p>Location: Vermont State University, Castleton campus, Castleton Vermont</p> <p>This general outline illustrates the type of work which characterizes the job classification.
