<p>The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.</p> <p>The Strategic Initiative Unit for Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units (OTxHU) is seeking an administrative intern to support the transition into the new Bellevue correctional facility. This role focuses on alleviating tasks for senior staff, allowing them to concentrate on critical implementation strategies.</p> <ul> <li>Assist in developing new communication methods with staff and incarcerated individuals </li></ul> <p>using tools such as Everbridge and Securus.</p> <ul> <li>Participate in building a comprehensive training curriculum, including tabletop exercises </li></ul> <p>and after-action reviews.</p> <ul> <li>Support the revision of the Emergency Response Operations Manual (EROM), including </li></ul> <p>ICS and EOC adaptations for DOC.</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with various teams to develop emergency evacuation plans for all facilities. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Skills</p> <ul> <li>Enrollment in a relevant degree program (human services, administration, or related </li></ul> <p>field).</p> <ul> <li>Strong communication and organizational skills. </li><li>Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. </li><li>Passion for enhancing organizational effectiveness and supporting staff. </li></ul> <p>SUMMER COLLEGE INTERN - 10234</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).</p> <p>NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.</p> <p>Public Service Loan Forgiveness</p> <p>As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
