<p>Under the general direction and supervision of the Farm Manager, the Farm Assistant is responsible for managing the care of all livestock and assisting with the set-up of equipment for land lab classes for the Agriculture program. The Farm Assistant works collaboratively with the Farm Manager, staff, and students to support livestock and farm operations and to ensure a safe and effective learning environment. This is a part-time, temporary position.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Assist with managing the care of livestock in coordination with the faculty. This includes breeding schedules, artificial insemination, semen collection, herd record collection, herd health, processing vaccinations, and bio-security clean environments. Ensure feed, water, and bedding/shelter are maintained according to the coordinated plan, schedules, and industry best practices. SCC's current species include swine, beef cattle, sheep, goats, and equine. </li><li>Assist in coordinating with faculty for the set-up of planting, tillage, harvesting, and pesticide application classes. </li><li>Set up and maintenance of equipment and implements to ensure safe farm operations and a learning environment. </li><li>Transportation of livestock on and off campus. </li><li>Safely operate farm equipment and vehicles. </li><li>Maintain and upgrade the Livestock and Ag laboratory and production facilities, and equipment. Responsible for verifying the maintenance of facilities and equipment to ensure it is kept in safe and proper working order for student use. </li><li>Maintain and improve Pasture, Field, and Fence condition by removing trees, spraying, mowing, etc. </li><li>Function as a Member of the Agriculture and Livestock programs, the Agriculture Division, Instructional Division, and SCC teams. </li></ul> <p>Promote a Culture of Belonging</p> <p>Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all.</p> <p>Marginal Functions</p> <ul> <li>Minor maintenance of equipment and facilities. </li><li>May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required. </li><li>Perform other College functions and duties as assigned. </li><li>Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Southeast Community College schedules work schedules (hours/days/work location) based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Possess a working knowledge of low-stress animal handling, animal health schedules, and routines. Must also be familiar with and committed to exceeding standards regarding laws, regulations, and industry best practices relating to animal welfare and care. </li><li>Possess current knowledge of and experience in the Livestock Management & Production field. This will include working with one or more of the following species: Swine, Beef Cattle, Sheep, Goats, and Equine. </li><li>Possess a working knowledge and experience of bio-security processes and best practices. </li><li>Possess current knowledge of and experience in the Agronomy Management & Production field. This will include working with one or more of the following crops: Corn (irrigated and dry land), Soybeans (irrigated and dry land), Alfalfa, Prairie Grass, Wheat, and other crops or cover crops. </li><li>Possess a working knowledge and experience in routine maintenance, adjustments, minor repairs, and proper storage and care of agricultural equipment. </li><li>Ability to operate farm equipment and vehicles. </li><li>Maintain safe work and lab class environments. </li><li>Ability to lift and carry up to sixty (60) pounds for short distances, and move tables, chairs, and media equipment. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. This includes the use of email, text, and 2-way radio, as well as communicating in person with groups and teams of individuals. </li><li>Maintain professional and appropriate working relationships with colleagues, students, and visitors. </li><li>Ability to use basic computer skills. </li><li>The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Two (2) years of related work experience in the Agriculture or Livestock field. </li><li>Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and the ability to qualify for auto insurance. </li><li>Must currently hold or must obtain a Pork Quality Assurance Plus (PQA Plus) certification, a Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification, and a Nebraska Pesticide Applicator certification within twelve (12) months of hire. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree in agriculture, Ag Education, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or Agronomy. </li><li>Four (4) years of recent verifiable work experience in Production Agriculture. </li><li>Additional post-secondary training or degree. </li><li>Industry-recognized certification(s) related to Livestock Management, Health, Reproduction, and/or Handling. </li><li>Industry-recognized certification(s) related to Agronomy, Land Management, Crop Production, and/or Precision Agriculture practices. </li><li>Possess a valid Class A CDL </li></ul> <p>Salary</p> <p>TBD</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>Part-time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College.</p> <p>Schedule</p> <p>This is a part-time temporary position with assignments based on program needs.</p>
