All City hiring decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Under supervision of up-line management, performs skilled work in the organization and implementation of required tasks, equipment and materials necessary to the operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of the water system facilities and appurtenances, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective execution of daily maintenance activities.</p> <p>This position is from 7:30 am - 4 pm.</p> <p>Duties & Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Field oversight and execution of maintenance, repair, removal, and installation of critical treatment equipment including, centralized filter controls, chemical gravimetric feeders, gas feeder chlorinators, automatic rate controllers, gauges and transmitters, motorized gates & valves, metering pumps, centrifugal pumping equipment, boilers, and piping. </li><li>Performs a variety of duties requiring manual skills or special knowledge and participates in daily work assignments </li><li>Guides and instructs work performed by water plant mechanics at the Philip J. Holton Purification Plant and remote facilities, providing technical guidance, hands-on training, and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards. </li><li>Guides and instructs crews to ensure work is completed in compliance with all relevant practices, procedures, rules, regulations and ordinances, and state and federal laws; particular attention is required to compliance with safety regulations, traffic regulations, , and standard operating procedures of critical water treatment equipment. </li><li>Organizes daily task assignments ensuring that required materials and equipment are delivered safely to the worksite and that the worksite is secure, and crewmembers protected. </li><li>Adheres to all Providence Water safety procedures </li><li>Responds to emergencies at the purification plant, pumping stations, and related facilities 7 days a week, on a 24-hour basis. </li><li>Required to work s non-standard workweek, as needed. </li><li>Ensures that water plant mechanics comply with all standard operating procedures (SOPs), and assist operations management with the creation, revision, and implementation of (SOPs). </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High school graduate or equivalent. </li><li>Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in water purification facility. </li><li>Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License. </li><li>Experience reading and utilizing record drawings, O&M manuals, and maps. </li><li>Ability to work with all department personnel in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner. </li><li>Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal instruction or supervision. </li><li>Must be able to independently plan, design, and perform duties below the journeyman level consistent with the installation of the various piping projects using plumbing mechanical, rigging, and other disciplines required. </li><li>Must be capable of designing and constructing new builds, including rough carpentry, plumbing, masonry, roofing projects, general preventative boiler maintenance, and rebuilding gas pump engines and compressors. </li><li>Must be able to independently maintain and operate chemical transfer equipment, pumps, saws, drills, vehicles, trucks, pipe-fitting equipment, and all other vehicles, equipment, and tools associated with the water treatment plant maintenance program and associated facilities. </li><li>Must be able to independently clean and repair boilers, chemical feeder machines, pumps, transfer equipment, filters, pipeline structures, appurtenances and other related equipment associated with water treatment and transmission including, but not limited to, generators, metering pumps, centrifugal pumps, rotary valves, diverter valves, air release/vacuum breakers, valves, actuators, compressors and blowers. </li><li>Must be able to independently perform general maintenance including, but not limited to, painting, lubricating, mechanical repairs, cleaning of basins and settling lagoons, and janitorial work at a water treatment plant and related facilities, pumping stations and other structures, chemical-transfer equipment, and major aqueduct facilities </li><li>Ability to forecast the tools, materials, and vehicles needed to complete upcoming preventive/corrective maintenance orders. </li><li>Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills. Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues, city officials, contractors and management. </li><li>Ability to work under pressure, managing multiple priorities and colleagues. </li><li>Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job and at times in adverse weather conditions. </li><li>Candidates must pass an aptitude assessment by answering and/or explaining plant-related questions selected at random by the interview panel. </li></ul> <p>Training Requirements</p> <p>Upon Appointment:</p> <ul> <li>Customer Service Training. </li><li>Sexual Harassment, Sensitivity and Diversity Training. </li><li>Successful completion of Work Zone Safety Training within (1) year of appointment, or when available. </li><li>Successful completion of scissor lift, electric pallet jack and forklift training programs within (1) year of appointment. </li><li>Successful completion of Confined Space training within (1) year of appointment. </li><li>Successful completion of First Aid and CPR training within (1) year of appointment. </li><li>Successful completion of Hazmat Certification training within (1) year of appointment. </li><li>Successful completion of Chlorine Safety training within (1) year of appointment. </li></ul> <p>Sustainment:</p> <ul> <li>Participation in Customer Service training every 24 months. </li><li>Must Maintain a valid State Driver License. </li><li>Must Maintain scissor life, electronic pallet jack and forklift certifications. </li><li>Must Maintain Confined Space certification. </li><li>Must Maintain Hazmat certification. </li><li>Must Maintain First Aid and CPR certification. </li></ul> <p>EXTERNAL CANDIDATES - APPLY HERE</p> <p>CURRENT EMPLOYEES (1033 ONLY) - APPLY HERE</p>
