Diversity, inclusion and belonging are woven into the fabric of our company through our customers, employees, leadership, business relationships and outreach programs.</p> <p>What you'll be doing:</p> <p>Work with CM Group management and others in the Accounting and Finance Department to prepare company financial statements and reports related to any one or more of the following areas: regulatory compliance, operational.</p> <p>On any given day, you'll:</p> <p>Job responsibilities will include any one or more of the following areas:</p> <ul> <li>Tax </li><li>Prepare/oversee premium tax returns and make annual and installment payments. </li><li>Prepare/oversee corporate income tax returns for select states. </li><li>Prepare/oversee municipal tax filings on a quarterly/annual basis. </li><li>Oversee federal 1099 filings to ensure filing is complete and accurate. </li><li>Regulatory Compliance </li><li>Complete/oversee data request calls for insurance departments, statistical services, rating bureaus, residual market pools, etc. </li><li>Review/pay surcharges and recoupments and reconcile the associated general ledger accounts. </li><li>Coordinate annual regulatory filings to the state insurance departments. </li><li>Prepare/review schedules, as needed, for statutory annual statement. </li><li>Operational </li><li>Prepare and maintain company equipment records and prepare equipment depreciation reports using FAS software. </li><li>Prepare/review journal vouchers as assigned. </li><li>Perform account reconciliations as assigned. </li><li>Handle all transactions involving assumed/ceded reinsurance. </li><li>Complete tasks as part of preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements. </li><li>Investment </li><li>Enter/review investment transactions into investment software. </li><li>Prepare/review investment schedules in statutory annual statement. </li><li>Reconcile investment activity. </li><li>Treasury </li><li>Reconcile and monitor bank account activity. </li><li>Perform daily pay process for direct payments from bank accounts. </li><li>Oversee unclaimed property process and reconciliation. </li><li>Expense Analysis and Budgeting </li><li>Participate in coordinating the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes. </li><li>Review monthly actual results versus budgets and forecasts and perform expense analysis to identify potential trends or irregular spending. </li><li>Provide business unit and financial management with actual-to-plan variance analysis and work with business units to identify causes and proposed resolutions of variances. </li><li>Identify and communicate risks and opportunities associated with the results of expense analysis. </li><li>Miscellaneous </li><li>Document procedures, as necessary, for the accounting procedure manual. </li><li>Oversee completion of department special projects. </li><li>Assist with financial and tax audits. </li><li>Mentor/lead staff accountant positions. </li></ul> <p>Here's what we expect</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in accounting is required. </li><li>CPA and/or CMA certification required. May consider significant accounting/finance experience within the property/casualty industry in lieu of a certification. </li><li>Minimum of three years' statutory accounting experience required, preferably in the insurance industry. </li><li>Evidence of ability to effectively organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines or requirements. </li><li>Strong analytical skills. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels. </li><li>Sound judgment and effective decision-making skills. </li></ul> <p>Church Mutual is an equal opportunity employer.
