<p>This position requires a physical presence at the work location.</p> <p>Please refer to Important Information at the end of the page.</p> <p>The Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County</p> <p>ACCOUNTANT</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Accountant is a full-time Shakman Non-Exempt position, reporting directly to the Director of Accounting. The Accountant should perform specialized Accounting and Analytical tasks of considerable scope and complexity involving the operations and control of financial and procedural matters related to the collection and payments of fines, fees, and penalties due and owing to the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court pursuant to Illinois State Statutes and/or order of court. Performs the same tasks related to the collection of NSF restitution from attorneys. Accountable for work products of all teams/projects assigned. Handles co-workers and clients with respect and courtesy when performing his/her job duties.</p> <p>Essential Job Duties</p> <ul> <li>Reconciles several division/district accounts. Provides assurance that division/district trial balances accounts have been corrected and reconciled every month. </li><li>Audits and analyzes various court orders, revenue reports, disbursements, and schedules. </li><li>Records and analyzes cash receipts and cash disbursements to ensure the proper entry of data fields and perform the proper managerial approval processes especially the spreadsheet prepared by suburban field auditors which amounts are traced to bank statements. </li><li>Prepares financial reports for various departments. </li><li>Records receipts and accrued billing. </li><li>Prepares or directs the preparation of periodic, special or financial reports as required. </li><li>Prepares the monthly payout process including the preparation of checks. </li><li>Generates and mails out payout checks to all municipalities, state, county, and other agencies. </li><li>Audits check requests for at least a couple of Districts and daily cash receipts for each trust account. </li><li>Reconciles bank accounts. </li><li>Prepares the check request for Trust accounts release and enters check request into the accounting software for the check processing. </li><li>Serves as liaison to Cook County and other governmental entities as it relates to statutory revenue and disbursement requirements </li><li>Prepares analysis, documentation and reports for the annual audit. </li><li>Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>The duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work. They are not to be construed as a complete list of the many duties normally to be performed under a job title or those to be performed temporarily outside an employee's normal line of work.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Two (2) years of full-time work experience in general accounting, financial auditing, or related financial field. </li></ul> <p>OR</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Four (4) years full-time work experience in general accounting, financial auditing, or related financial field. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>One (1) year of full-time work experience in government accounting or auditing. </li><li>One (1) year of full-time work experience in Odyssey, SAGE300, or similar accounting software. </li><li>One (1) year of full-time work experience preparing or auditing financial statements under GASB84 or AOIC. </li><li>Current employee of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics</p> <ul> <li>Excellent organization and planning skills. </li><li>Ability to follow directions, multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment. </li><li>Excellent customer service skills. </li><li>Ability to interact in a professional manner with the general public, attorneys, employees and other court personnel. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to work with a team and/or independently. </li><li>Ability to make clear presentations and facilitate meetings. </li><li>Ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines. </li><li>Computer literacy with skill and efficiency in entering and retrieving data and preparing informative reports.
