<p>Summary of Position</p> <p>Responsible for all student support functions and coverage, financial aid counseling, training creation and updating, outreach activities, and administration of the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy. Aids in constructing and scheduling presentations and staffing Financial Aid programs. Acts as liaison with student support campus partner and stakeholder areas including Penguin Service Center, Admissions, Resch Academic Success Center, and First Year Student Services. Serves as a back-up for financial aid processing areas including verification, special circumstance analysis, and financial aid eligibility reviews. Creates, schedules production, and ensures distribution of financial aid marketing materials, newsletters, and email communications.</p> <p>Position Information</p> <p>Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Supervises employees; evaluates staffing needs; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of tasks; approves and/or disapproves requests for leave; interviews candidates for employments and makes recommendations for hire; evaluates work performance; receives and responds to grievances; provides assistance with the development of unit work procedures and policies; recommends and provides staff development opportunities.</p> <p>Creates and updates training and materials to orient new employees within the financial aid office, as well as on financial aid topics to partner and stakeholder campus areas.</p> <p>Manages the construction, production, and dissemination of financial aid marketing materials, as well as print and electronic communications (i.e., newsletter, emails, etc.).</p> <p>Administers SAP policy; complies with State and Federal regulations to review the academic progress of students annually. Assesses reports to identify students not making satisfactory academic progress; sends out annual citation letters; collects pertinent documentation relative to SAP appeals; provides outreach and academic intervention for at risk student populations, working in conjunction with campus constituents (Resch Academic Success Center) as needed; meets with and counsels students cited for not meeting compliance standards to develop an Academic Plan; analyzes end of term grade reports to evaluate students who have been placed on a probationary term; applies and releases financial holds.</p> <p>Serves as the liaison for the Penguin Service Center to communicate up-to-date financial aid information, coordinates walk-in and formal appointment schedules for Financial Aid Counselors; assesses and addresses needs between the areas allowing for optimal customer service and consistency of information.</p> <p>Serves alongside Associate Director as point of contact for high schools and University academic and administrative departments, as it relates to scheduling all financial aid public speaking assignments/presentations; represents office as required at these events.</p> <p>Oversees activities for the annual Financial Aid Night; organizes letter and postcard mailings promoting the event; works collaboratively with Kilcawley Center on room reservations, set-up, and catering; acts as liaison with families and schools inquiring about event details; coordinates with related departments to staff event.</p> <p>Works collaboratively with office staff to assess reports and communications that support student enrollment and retention initiatives including NSLDS Admissions reviews and the office general email inbox, then assigns work as needed to meet deadlines and appropriate response times.</p> <p>Acts as back-up for the verification process, special circumstance review, and financial aid eligibility reviews; examines, audits, and verifies all incoming information; ensures federal, state, and University regulations.</p> <p>Counsels students and families on financial aid, financial planning, debt management, and federal methodology; assists students and parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), finalizing the verification process, adjusting income or other pertinent data on the FAFSA, and aids student in accepting loans and finalizing associated processes.</p> <p>Responds to inquiries regarding financial aid offers and reviews YSU's cost of attendance and awarding versus other institutions and assists students and families in calculating remaining out-of-pocket expenses related to estimated costs associated with postsecondary education.</p> <p>Coordinates with Office of the University Bursar and Penguin Service Center on initiatives to satisfy outstanding balances and prevent financial suspension through financial aid options.</p> <p>Counsels students on the Return to Title IV refund policy, calculates estimated returned funds, and advises on subsequent financial consequences of completely withdrawing from classes.</p> <p>Reviews YSU 1500 financial aid materials and works alongside First Year Student Services to update information as necessary.</p> <p>Other Functions and Responsibilities: Assists with training new hires.</p> <p>Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.</p> <p>Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.</p> <p>Work Schedule: Monday through Friday.</p> <p>Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over staff and students.</p> <p>Reports to: Associate Director, Scholarships and Special Programs</p> <p>Qualifications and Competencies</p> <p>Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures:None</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <p>Knowledge of: University policies and procedures<em>; records management; office management; project management; policy administration; process improvement.</p> <p>Skill in: use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division*.</p> <p>Ability to: maintain an even temperament in stressful situations; communicates effectively in individual and group settings; deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; determine material and equipment needs; calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages; compile and prepare reports; use proper research methods to gather data; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; prepare accurate documentation; maintain records according to established procedures; travel to and gain access to work site; effectively interact with personnel and public to answer routine questions; 5 or more years of financial aid experience.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree</p>
