<p>Job Description:</p> <p>THE SHERMAN SCHOOL</p> <p>NOTICE of VACANCY</p> <p>Internal and External Applicants Encouraged to Apply</p> <p>Located in an idyllic setting in the northernmost corner of Fairfield County, Connecticut, The Sherman School is a small, PK-8 school with approximately 267 students and 80 dedicated faculty and staff members. We offer small class sizes, and wonderful resources to support our programs.</p> <p>Position Title: 0.8 FTE Social Worker</p> <p>This is a grant funded position that is only for the 2025-2026 school year.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>A.) Valid certification issued by the</p> <p>Connecticut State Department of</p> <p>Education for the position.</p> <p>B.) Experience in the field as the Board and</p> <p>Administration may find appropriate and</p> <p>acceptable.</p> <p>Reports to: Director of Student Support Services</p> <p>Job Goal: To administer and maintain a program of Social Services for The Sherman School.</p> <p>The successful candidate will:</p> <ul> <li>Serve as a liaison between the school and the home in cases referred by school administration. </li><li>Perform casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social or emotional mal-adjustments related to their educational and social progress. </li><li>Perform casework service with parents to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available. </li><li>Consult and collaborate with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student's behavior. </li><li>Assist the Director of Student Support Services in the placement of all children in special education including those placed outside the school district. </li><li>Coordinate all cases referred to outside agencies, except those placed in special education. </li><li>Assist in counseling students and parents. </li><li>Assist students directly toward adjustment to school. </li><li>Serve as a resource in developing alternative programming for students who may benefit from it. </li><li>Assess students' mental health needs and educational and social emotional functions through clinical interviews, observations, and consultation with teachers, other school staff parents, and/or outside providers working with families. </li><li>Assist school staff in investigating and helping to solve attendance issues. </li><li>Attend PPT and 504 meetings on students who have been assigned to the Social Worker and others who may be in need of social services. </li><li>Provide data and insight to schools' Planning and Placement Team for specific student needs. </li><li>Respond to crisis and emergent situations and serve on schools' Crisis/Emergency Response Team. </li><li>Regularly communicate with families and outside providers to optimize students' functioning across all settings. </li><li>Collect, analyze, maintain, and update social/behavioral data and records. </li><li>Coordinate the referral of students not enrolled in the Sherman School District (i.e., preschool, foster students, etc.). </li><li>Fulfill all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Experiences:</p> <ul> <li>Prior experience as a social worker preferred </li></ul> <p>Salary</p> <ul> <li>Per experience and contract </li></ul> <p>Application:</p> <ul> <li>Please submit via email to employment@shermanschool.com a job-specific cover letter, updated resume, three recent professional references, and unofficial transcripts. </li></ul> <p>Learn more about Sherman by visiting www.shermanschool.com</p>
