<p>Reports to and is under the general supervision of the Fetal Care Center Manager and/or Manager/Asst with a dotted line to Radiology Leadership, performs ultrasound exams on high risk obstetrics, relays diagnostic information to maternal fetal medicine providers. Maintains equipment, records and supplies.</p> <p>The Perinatal Sonographer responsibilities to include but not limited to:</p> <p>Performing perinatal diagnostic medical sonograms in accordance with protocols to assist the physician with diagnosis and treatment.</p> <p>Assisting in the training and development of ultrasound skills for trainees</p> <p>Performs ultrasound quality control measures and checks</p> <p>Assist with Maternal Fetal Medicine Interventional procedures</p> <p>Helps out other roles in the department when time permits</p> <p>Maintains the appropriate skills related to patient care and imaging of perinatal, neonatal and pediatric patients. Has the ability to access imaging orders and requests for completeness and accuracy. Involves patient/parent/and caregiver in care and procedure. Explains exams and procedures thoroughly to patient before they are performed. Allows time for and encourages questions.</p> <p>Effectively utilizes available resources and other members of the healthcare team to assure timeliness and accuracy of performing requested exam. Follows through with notification of appropriate parties of any variations and or changes of requested exam.</p> <p>Performs Ultrasound exams on a daily basis requesting by licensed providers. Also provides support to other technical and non-technical areas as needed. Ensures all images are of excellent diagnostic quality.</p> <p>Teaches and mentors new sonographers, student sonographers and Residents as appropriate. Evaluates their knowledge / skill levels and communicates it to the department and program coordinators.</p> <p>Assures accurate physician, patient and exam data transfer between department and hospital systems. Reports all errors to proper personnel in a timely manner</p> <p>Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children's Standards.</p> <p>Performs other related duties as required.</p> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED</p> <p>High school diploma or GED required</p> <p>Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Program required</p> <p>2 years experience required in perinatal ultrasound</p> <p>Associates Degree preferred</p> <p>LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED</p> <p>Registered A.R.D.M.S.; RDMS Upon Hire. ARMDS OB/GYN required within one year.</p> <p>Current Basic Life Support, BLS / CPR certification.</p> <p>High risk OB U.S. experience preferred.</p> <p>Nuchal Translucency certification preferred.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE OF:</p> <ul> <li>Considerable knowledge of anatomical positioning and physiology </li><li>Competency and proficiency with ultrasound equipment </li><li>Considerable knowledge of ultrasound procedures </li><li>Ability to exercise independent judgment </li><li>Knowledge of infection control procedures </li><li>Knowledge of patient monitoring equipment </li><li>Considerable interpersonal skills. </li></ul> <p>SKILLS:</p> <ul> <li>Active listening skills </li><li>Possess excellent organizational skills </li><li>Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills </li><li>Exhibits leadership skills </li></ul> <p>ABILITY TO:</p> <ul> <li>Interact and communicate with individuals at all level of the organization </li><li>Be detailed oriented </li><li>Treats others with respect </li><li>Collaborate and partners well with others </li><li>Follow directions and focus on accomplishing goals </li><li>Meet all deadlines in a timely manner </li></ul>
