To learn more about what the City has to offer please click here.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Position: Desktop Support Specialist</p> <p>Location: Information Technology Center</p> <p>Date opened: March 16, 2025</p> <p>Date closed: Until Filled</p> <p>Position Type: Full Time / Benefitted / Union</p> <p>Salary: $59,993 - $79,596</p> <p>Essential duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Performs technical work providing hardware and software support to end users; provides basic on-site instruction for computer use and software when requested by user. Identifies user problems and installs, configures and troubleshoots hardware and software problems; troubleshoots basic desktop and printer network problems. May use remote software or visit users in person as part of daily routine. Plans, researches, and analyzes customers' requirements; tests new products. Configures, troubleshoots, and trains end users on smart phones and related products when necessary. Writes procedures for existing software; updates procedures; researches new desktop software and hardware; develops procedures for implementing new applications; works with individual clients needing specialized software. Performs similar or related duties as required, and all other duties assigned by the Department Head.</p> <p>Supervision: Works under the supervision of the Network Administrator; the employee generally functions independently, referring specific issues to the supervisor.</p> <p>Work Environment:</p> <p>Most work is performed in office conditions some of which is done remotely with telephones or other conferencing software and equipment; work is subject to unplanned events, such as system emergencies; operates standard office equipment, hand tools and power tools; has regular contact with system users; may have access to confidential information about system users. Errors could result in delay or loss of service, damage to equipment, monetary loss or legal repercussions.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>Associate's degree or high school diploma and additional technical training; three years of experience providing technical support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A+ Certification preferred.</p> <p>Additional requirements: Valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable vehicle.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <p>Knowledge of information technology, networks, servers, desktop hardware and software. Ability to identify and solve a range of user problems; ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form; ability to deliver training and instruction to other City employees. Excellent technical and communication skills.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>Minimal physical effort is generally required to perform most duties; some duties require moderate effort. Required to stand, walk, sit, speak, hear and use hands to operate equipment, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Must occasionally climb ladders and lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
