Please refer to Veteran Preference document requirements listed on the bottom of this posting.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>Under the direction of the Department of Psychiatry Chair and the Child/Adolescent Psychiatry Division Chair, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will provide psychiatric assessment and management of patients with co-morbid medical disease and behavioral problems. Provides initial psychiatric consultations in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings throughout Cook County Health (CCH). Provides ongoing medication management to patients in outpatient psychiatry clinics and to patients in John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital (JSH) including Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) as needed.</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Provides general psychiatric assessments to referred patients and ongoing medication management to these patients. </li><li>Provides assessment of children in terms of psychopathology, development, culture, and family. Work with each child in context of his/her family unit. Provide additional clinical service to disorders that span from childhood to adulthood (including mental retardation, ADHD, and mood disorders). </li><li>Provides education to patients, families, students, medical residents and clinic staff regarding mental health screening and treatment within a medical practice. </li><li>Provides clinical guidance to non-physician clinical staff members and team. </li><li>Documents all encounters with patients in medical record and communicate diagnoses and treatment recommendations to appropriate medical staff. Report any suspected child abuse or neglect (in accordance with Illinois State law, CCH' Child Abuse and Neglect policies, and CCH Child Protective Services' procedures). </li><li>Maintains active licensure with the State of Illinois and active credentials with CCH and JTDC. Maintain active board certification with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and active subspecialty certification in the area of Child Psychiatry. </li><li>Attends required meetings and participates in assigned committees. Participate in necessary peer review and quality assurance activities. Engage in Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluation within the Department. </li><li>Provides psychiatric consultation and care to all CCH sites, including JSH and JTDC. Primary site is anticipated to be JSH. </li><li>Participates in quality improvement activities and professional development activities. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned and within the scope of practice. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li> <p>Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited program is required</p> </li><li> <p>Licensed as a physician in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain physician license two prior to stating employment is required</p> </li><li> <p>Illinois and Federal controlled substance license or eligibility to obtain license two (2) weeks prior to starting employment is required</p> </li><li> <p>Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or must obtain Board Certification within two (2) years of starting this employment is required</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of a General Psychiatry Residency is required</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of child/adolescent psychiatry fellowship from accredited program is required</p> </li><li> <p>Experience and knowledge with gender, age, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, SES, substance abuse and medical issues of the treatment population served is required</p> </li><li> <p>Experience providing emergency and inpatient psychiatric consultations to medically ill patients is required</p> </li><li> <p>Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to travel to CCH work sites is required</p> </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of all applicable departmental, Cook County, state, and federal regulations regarding patient care. </li><li>Knowledge of age-specific and culture-specific differences in the target population, including physiological, psychological, cultural, and developmental differences in each group. </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels </li><li>of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups </li><li>Skills in teaching and supervising psychiatry medical students. </li><li>Strong organizational skills to manage large volume of patients and referrals. </li><li>Ability to work independently, be able to prioritize, and manage time. </li><li>Ability to assess information, apply critical thinking to determine course of action, and relay this information to patients, families, and clinical staff. </li><li>Ability to provide clear and concise documentation regarding patients and to maintain this information in a confidential manner. </li><li>Facilitation of teamwork and collaborative interaction between clinical staff and other practice personnel. </li><li>Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with all staff, trainees, and patients at all times. </li><li>Ability to physically perform in terms of physical movements, vision, hearing, and speech as outlined in Physical Job Description for Department of Psychiatry staff </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS</p> <p>This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department specific engineering and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital wide policy and departmental procedures.</p> <p>The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
