<p>Job Title: Phlebotomist</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>This phlebotomist role focuses on performing high-quality blood draws and specimen preparation while providing a calm, reassuring experience for patients across a wide range of ages and backgrounds. You will collect, label, process, and store specimens according to established procedures, helping ensure accurate laboratory results and supporting a strong standard of patient care.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring minimal discomfort and a positive experience for patients. </li><li>Collect and store blood and other specimens, such as urine or fecal samples, in accordance with established procedures and protocols. </li><li>Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients before and during collection. </li><li>Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all information is accurate and complete. </li><li>Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders to maintain specimen integrity. </li><li>Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or orders to ensure 100% accuracy. </li><li>Package specimens for transport and follow all required procedures to preserve specimen quality during transit. </li><li>Store specimens at the required temperatures and place samples in the appropriate collection containers or tubes with accurate labeling. </li><li>Fully understand and interpret physicians' orders to ensure proper specimen collection and handling. </li><li>Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and follow all safety and decontamination procedures. </li><li>Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to maintain a safe and compliant work area. </li><li>Update patient information accurately and maintain strong administrative records related to specimen collection and processing. </li><li>Attend annual department trainings to stay current with procedures, regulations, and best practices. </li><li>Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results when needed to respond to inquiries in a professional manner. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>2-3 years of experience performing blood draws. </li><li>Proficiency in phlebotomy, including venipuncture and specimen collection. </li><li>Experience using straight needles and butterfly needles for blood draws. </li><li>Ability to collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established procedures. </li><li>Strong attention to detail and administrative skills, including accurate data entry and documentation. </li><li>Ability to interpret and follow physicians' orders and laboratory requisitions accurately. </li><li>Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations related to specimen collection, processing, and safety. </li><li>Experience handling pediatric blood draws and working with a wide range of patient demographics. </li><li>Ability to manage specimen processing workflows, including packaging and preparing samples for transport. </li><li>Strong communication skills to clearly explain procedures and respond to patient and provider inquiries. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience reading and communicating laboratory results over the phone. </li><li>Comfort working with multiple specimen types, including blood, urine, and fecal samples. </li><li>Ability to maintain composure and provide reassurance to patients who may be anxious about blood draws. </li><li>Willingness to participate in ongoing training and departmental updates. </li><li>Interest in a role that involves working in different locations within the state, providing variety in the workday. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This role is based in White Plains with a schedule of Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., plus rotating Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The position may involve in-state travel and offers a changing work setting for those who enjoy a variety of locations. The environment includes standard clinical and laboratory equipment such as needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and specimen storage systems, and requires adherence to safety regulations and appropriate clinical attire. The role operates in a patient-facing setting where professionalism, cleanliness, and compliance with health and safety standards are essential.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Contract to Hire position based out of White Plains, NY.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
