This role involves working closely with the Tissue Bank and Clinical Research Units to support our research and diagnostic efforts. Check out retirement health insurance benefits, retirement income, and FAQ's. </li><li>Wellness programs </li></ul> <p>What You'll Do</p> <ul> <li>Perform routine and specialized histological techniques, including tissue fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. </li><li>Prepare and maintain histological specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis. </li><li>Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and performance. </li><li>Collaborate with the Tissue Bank and Clinical Research Units to provide high-quality histological services. </li><li>Ensure accurate documentation and labeling of specimens and maintain detailed records of laboratory procedures. </li><li>Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety guidelines to maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment. </li><li>Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of histological results. </li><li>Assist in the development and optimization of new histological techniques and protocols. </li><li>Stay current with advancements in histology and participate in continuing education and professional development. </li></ul> <p>Pay Grade: 17</p> <ul> <li> <p>Associate degree in Histotechnology or a related field, Bachelor's degree preferred</p> </li><li> <p>A minimum of two (2) years of experience involving:</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in a histology laboratory, preferably in a clinical or research setting.</p> </li><li> <p>Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.</p> </li><li> <p>All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.</p> </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strong understanding of epidemiologic principles, study design, and statistical analysis. </li><li>Proficiency in histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. </li><li>Strong attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity. </li><li>Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities. </li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. </li><li>Commitment to advancing the mission and goals of the WVU Cancer Institute. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred. </li></ul>
