<p>Safety Strategy & Leadership:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement the company's safety strategy to ensure a safe working environment. </li><li>Lead the safety team, consisting of divisional safety managers, providing direction, support, and mentorship to ensure high performance. </li><li>Lead the safety committee, creating a partnership between operations and safety to improve safety culture company wide. </li><li>Be an agent of change and establish a strong safety culture across all sites with a focus on prevention including awareness, training, ownership and early hazard identification and elimination. </li><li>Collaborate with the ELT & management to integrate safety into the company's overall business strategy. </li></ul> <p>Policy Development and Compliance:</p> <ul> <li>Develop, update, and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, MSHA, US Coast Guard, and other agencies that are location or project specific. </li><li>Ensure all safety practices adhere to industry standards and best practices. </li><li>Conduct regular reviews and audits with the divisional safety managers to ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies. </li></ul> <p>Risk Assessment and Management:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement risk management strategies to prevent accidents and incidents. </li><li>Monitor and analyze safety performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement. </li></ul> <p>Training and Education:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels. </li><li>Ensure all employees are educated on safety protocols and procedures. </li><li>Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous learning. </li></ul> <p>Incident Investigation and Reporting:</p> <ul> <li>Oversee investigations conducted by the divisional safety managers and general managers into safety incidents for all accidents, and near-misses. </li><li>Prepare detailed reports on incidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions. </li><li>Ensure timely and accurate reporting of safety incidents to the ELT & management team as well as regulatory authorities if required by law. </li></ul> <p>Continuous Improvement:</p> <ul> <li>Foster a culture of continuous improvement in safety practices and performance. </li><li>Implement safety improvement initiatives based on data analysis and feedback. </li><li>Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in safety technology and practices. </li></ul> <p>Stakeholder Communication:</p> <ul> <li>Communicate safety performance and initiatives to internal and external stakeholders. </li><li>Prepare and present safety reports to senior management and the board of directors. </li><li>Maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies, industry groups, and other stakeholders. </li><li>Provide presentations and updates to Carver Companies key customers regarding our safety policies, procedures, and safety culture. </li><li>Maintain various customer safety and insurance databases required for continued business dealings on an annual basis. </li></ul> <p>Insurance Collaboration:</p> <ul> <li>Lead all safety related discussions with Carver Companies various insurance companies, agents, and underwriters </li><li>Identify problem areas, implement corrective action, and successfully improve the companies' experience modification rating (EMR). </li></ul> <p>Budget Management:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and manage the safety department's budget. </li><li>Allocate resources effectively to support safety initiatives and programs. </li><li>Monitor and control safety-related expenditures to ensure cost-effectiveness. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Experience</p> <ul> <li>Education: Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or a related field preferred. </li><li>Experience: Minimum 8-10 years experience in safety management, preferably in a similar industry. </li><li>Technical Skills: Strong computer skills are required to maintain internal and external customer safety databases. </li><li>Leadership & Soft Skills: Leadership, communication, change management, decision making, problem solving, conflict management & empathy, and adaptability. </li><li>Preferred Qualifications: Related industry certifications preferred. operate equipment for extended periods </li><li>Ability to sit at a desk for long periods of time </li><li>Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds </li><li>Frequent climbing, bending, and exposure to outdoor elements </li><li>Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required </li><li>Must be comfortable being aboard tugboats </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Role operates across diverse settings including construction sites, marine terminals, port facilities, and tugboat operations. </li><li>Combination of office-based responsibilities and frequent on-site visits to active work areas and vessels. </li><li>Regular exposure to outdoor elements, varying weather conditions, loud noise, moving equipment, and work around water. </li><li>Standard business hours with extended
