<p>Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) Mentor for Teacher Residency Program</p> <p>Job Summary:</p> <p>Round Lake teachers, currently teaching Special Education, who mentor in this program provide support to those candidates who have entered the residency program for AUSL. The residency program is a long term student teaching apprenticeship. Each mentor will host a resident for the entire school year, supporting them from the learning phase through a full takeover of classroom functioning (not unlike a traditional student teacher). An ideal mentor is a constant source of stability in a challenging environment, and residents should be able to ask questions, impart ideas, and share concerns with their mentor with the utmost confidentiality. Round Lake mentors should be trustworthy and ethical, so that residents receive support to grow in a safe, non-evaluative environment.</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Be a tenured teacher in RLAS 116 </li><li>Hold a most recent evaluation rating of at least proficient (although excellent is preferred) </li><li>Demonstrate regular attendance at work </li><li>Be knowledgeable of the Danielson Framework for Teaching </li><li>Demonstrate an upward trend of student achievement </li></ul> <p>Stipend Position:</p> <p>$6000 (June 2026-June 2027)</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Outstanding written and oral communication skills </li><li>Deep knowledge of content, curriculum, instructional strategies, and materials to support instruction according to the Danielson Framework for Teaching, and to develop teacher capacity in both content and pedagogy </li><li>Proven excellence in building- or content-specific instructional models (i.e., POGIL, Carnegie, etc.) </li><li>Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs </li><li>Ability to successfully build and foster relationships with colleagues and administration based on professional respect </li><li>Ability to share techniques and strategies for collecting and using data in the classroom </li><li>Ability to coach and motivate educators to grow in their content and instructional capacities </li></ul> <p>Duties and Expectations:</p> <ul> <li>Supports alignment between instructional materials, district curriculum, and state standards </li><li>Models and mentors teachers in the use of the Danielson Framework for Teaching and exemplary teaching strategies </li><li>Guides teachers to use student assessment data as part of a mastery learning framework </li><li>Helps teachers to implement school strategies (standards-based grading, mastery learning, etc.) </li><li>Upholds PLC model and provides coaching for new teachers on participating in the professional community </li><li>Recognizes the developmental stages of students and supports teachers' appropriate instruction of these students </li><li>Maintains a positive and safe learning environment for teachers and students </li><li>Acts in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, and district and building policies and procedures </li><li>May participate in professional development for the mentor program on SIP days </li><li>Attend seven to ten days of summer mentor training </li><li>Attend training as assigned throughout the residency program (avg: once per quarter) </li><li>Modeling the I Do, We Do, You Do process of good teaching </li><li>Video the assigned Resident Teacher and provide annotated feedback </li><li>Meet twice weekly for a minimum of thirty minutes with the assigned Resident Teacher </li><li>Submit required weekly documentation to sponsoring University & AUSL program </li><li>Support Resident Teacher in the creation of their required portfolio </li><li>May be assigned only 1 mentee </li></ul> <p>Primary Working Contacts:</p> <ul> <li>Works closely with residents, AUSL program advisors and DePaul University instructors. </li><li>Works under the immediate supervision the Director of Human Resources and the AUSL program advisors. </li></ul>
