<p>The Radiation Oncology and Emergency & Critical Care-Nephrology-Extracorporeal Therapies services are part of the Department of Clinical Sciences (DoCS) within the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State University (NCSU-CVM).</p> <p>Radiation Oncology at NCSU-CVM:</p> <p>The Radiation Oncology program focuses on head and neck cancer biology and radiation biology in companion animals. Our research aims to identify, characterize, and improve the understanding of head and neck cancers (melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma) in dogs and cats, with the goal of advancing both veterinary patient care and translational research applicable to human medicine. Eligibility and Employer Sponsored Plans can be found within each of the links offered.</p> <p>Essential Job Duties</p> <p>This position will serve as a research technician within the Emergency & Critical Care-Nephrology/Extracorporeal Therapies and Radiation Oncology team. A key focus will be processing clinical trial specimens, data collection, performing RNA/protein extraction, and cell culture to support research initiatives.</p> <p>Core Responsibilities:</p> <p>Clinical Trial & Research Support:</p> <ul> <li>Communicate with pet owners regarding clinical trials and schedule appointments. </li><li>Collect and process clinical specimens (e.g., blood, urine) for research. </li><li>Maintain proper documentation and storage of diagnostic samples. </li><li>Assist with patient monitoring device application for enrolled patients. </li><li>Ensure accurate entry of test orders and results into the laboratory information system. </li></ul> <p>Laboratory Operations & Equipment Maintenance:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate lab equipment and supply orders for clinical trials and in vitro/ex-vivo studies. </li><li>Perform and maintain cell culture, including routine maintenance, media preparation, and contamination control. </li><li>Conduct RNA and protein extraction, reagent preparation, and PCR component setup. </li><li>Assist with diagnostic and research testing as assigned. </li><li>Train and delegate tasks to student workers. </li><li>Maintain and service RNA/protein extraction machines and thermocyclers. </li><li>Monitor assay quality and ensure proper documentation of equipment maintenance. </li><li>Assist with pharmacokinetic analysis, including: </li><li>High-Performance Liquid Chromatography </li><li>Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry </li></ul> <p>Data Collection & Analysis:</p> <ul> <li>Search medical records and compile data for case-series studies. </li><li>Address discrepancies in data and investigate unusual test results. </li><li>Report findings to lead team members for further analysis. </li><li>Assist with advanced molecular biology techniques, including: </li><li>Quantitative PCR </li><li>Next-Generation Sequencing </li><li>Probe-based real-time PCR </li><li>ELISA, immunofluorescent staining, and Western Blot </li></ul> <p>Other Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Develop streamlined methods for RNA/protein extraction, testing, and documentation. </li><li>Validate new testing methods and perform preliminary analysis beyond diagnostic samples. </li><li>Identify and resolve sample processing issues, including preparing samples for specialized molecular diagnostic tests. </li><li>Assist with creating, modifying, and documenting new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for workflow and diagnostic processes. </li><li>Assist with Pharmacokinetic analysis, ex-vivo studies, including sample centrifugation, sample preparation, and medical equipment preparation. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum Experience/Education</p> <p>Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.</p> <p>Other Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. </li><li>Exceptional communication skills and professional behavior including ability to communicate with others in laboratory and veterinary setting. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience or familiar with the following computer and software: Google Drives, Microsoft Office; Microsoft Excel; PRISM or other statistical analysis program (R, SAS), EzyVet, or other medical/laboratory information systems; </li><li>Experience with the following laboratory techniques and equipment: cell culture, RNA/protein extraction, PCR, ELISA, Western Blot, immunofluorescent imaging; high-speed or ultracentrifugation </li><li>Experience with Next Generation Sequencing and/or nucleotide sequence analysis software. </li><li>Experience interacting with veterinarians and scientists utilizing diagnostic services. </li></ul> <p>Required License or Certification</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Valid NC Driver's License required No Commercial Driver's License Required?
