The University of Utah is moving towards a bifurcated model as of July 1st, with Residential Education reporting to Student Affairs. It is expected that the next Director of Housing will work closely with colleagues in both divisions.</p> <p>The Director will work collaboratively with colleagues who are overseeing the areas of Facilities, Budget & Finance, Dining Management, Living-Learning Programs, Resident Services, and Residential Education to advance a comprehensive and highly successful learning organization.</p> <p>The Director reports to the Associate Vice President of Housing Programs and supervises the associate director of operations, the associate director of communications and assessment, the staffing coordinator, and a shared administrative assistant. The Director has indirect supervision of 10+ full-time staff, and approximately 15 student leaders.</p> <p>The Director provides leadership and supervision to the following areas: Occupancy Management, Communications & Assessment, Human Resources and Information Technology.</p> <ul> <li>Full University benefit plan </li><li>Immediate 14.2% University contribution to 401k retirement plan </li><li>Health and dental insurance options </li><li>50% tuition reduction after 6 months of employment </li><li>Professional development funding. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision for a comprehensive housing program. This position is responsible for the following functional areas:</p> <ul> <li>Occupancy management and information analysis </li><li>StarRez software services </li><li>Department communications, marketing, outreach, and recruitment </li><li>Technology systems integration </li><li>Living learning/theme community applications </li><li>Department assessment planning, data collection, analysis, and integration into strategic plans </li><li>Budget development, oversight, and long-range planning </li><li>Student housing contract management, policy development and implementation </li><li>Staff recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, and professional development processes </li><li>Supervision and evaluation of staff </li><li>Development and advancement of collaborative campus partnerships, such as Enrollment Management, academic partners, Athletics, and International Support Services </li></ul> <p>As a director, this position has responsibility to align strategic direction of their responsible areas, and the department as a whole, with the University goals:</p> <ul> <li>Promote student success to transform lives </li><li>Develop and transfer new knowledge </li><li>Engage communities to improve health and quality of life </li><li>Ensure the long-term viability of the university </li></ul> <p>The Director is responsible for identifying, researching, evaluating strategic opportunities and evaluating their fiscal and policy implications.</p> <p>The Director provides support to advance the success of the entire department. They are a highly visible member of the university community who interacts across divisional lines. The Housing area works collaboratively with all segments of the university through occupancy management initiatives, living learning communities, marketing, and in policy matters (i.e. Athletics, International Student Support Services, Commuter Services, General Counsel, Admissions, Orientation & Transition, Disability and Access, University Guest House, University Marketing & Communications, University Computing Services, and Honors). The Director will serve on department, division and university committees, as appropriate. This position is also expected to serve as a connection point with colleagues outside of the institution, including Big XII, AIMHO, and ACUHO-I supporting their team to model similar engagement.</p> <p>The Director, along with members of the Senior Leadership Team, serves as part of department response teams in cases of emergency. They are part of the reporting line for significant incidents of crisis occurring during non-business hours.</p> <p>DISCLAIMER</p> <p>This job description is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.</p> <p>Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.</p> <p>Preferences</p> <ul> <li>A master's degree in higher education, business administration, or human behavior related field (or an equivalent combination of education and occupancy management experience). </li><li>A minimum of 8-years of related and progressively responsible work experience in Housing or Student Affairs. </li><li>Demonstrated skills in supervision of staff including: hiring, onboarding, training, providing ongoing performance feedback, delegation and building a collaborative team environment. </li><li>Experience analyzing and utilizing data, feedback, and good practices to engage change. </li><li>Organizational skills to manage projects, workflow and establish a harmonious and productive environment. </li><li>Budget development and management experience. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including excellent writing skills. </li><li>Demonstrated experience negotiating with stakeholders, residents, and families. </li><li>Functional use of Microsoft Office: Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel. </li><li>Demonstrated understanding of Housing's role in Enrollment Management. </li><li>Experience using information and occupancy data to inform occupancy projections. </li><li>Experience using a housing management software [HRE utilizes Star Rez]. </li><li>Awareness of state and federal laws pertaining to privacy, emotional support animals, landlord tenant law, etc. </li><li>Demonstrated experience managing beginning and late-stage occupancy processes to achieve average occupancy above 95%. </li></ul> <p>Type Benefited Staff Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
