<p>DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK</p> <p>RATE OF PAY: $15.00 per hour</p> <p>HOURS: 20-24 hours per week. Typical scheduling includes three 8-hour shifts per week during the regular work week (Monday thru Friday).</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:</p> <p>This is an Intern position working in the Dearborn Fire Department. The intern works under the direction of Senior Officers in the performance of duties. Although not an all-inclusive list examples of duties include, assisting in the Fire Chief's Office, participating in the smoke alarm installation program, accepting and responding to telephone calls, participating in community and public relations events, pumping fire hydrants and assisting firefighters during non-emergency activities.</p> <p>The intern will learn, understand, interpret and apply Dearborn Fire Department policies and procedures and will have opportunities to work with and train alongside Dearborn Firefighters. They will occasionally be expected to provide clerical support as needed, including typing, filing and providing requested forms and reports at the direction of a department member.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to communicate effectively with others at multiple levels, both verbally and in writing </li><li>Ability to manage multiple tasks well and to carry out complex written and oral instructions </li><li>Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative in analyzing problems </li><li>Well-versed in a variety of computer programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google </li><li>Ability to accept and deliver equipment, supplies and documents as needed. </li><li>Advanced writing skills </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others </li><li>Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent </li><li>Must be interested in or already pursuing a career in Fire/EMS either through a college/university or through a certified Fire or EMS academy </li><li>Must have a valid State of Michigan driver's license </li></ul> <p>POST OFFER REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Satisfactory completion of criminal history, physical, and a drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.</p>
