Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.</p> <p>Summary:</p> <p>The RN Lactation Consultant is a registered nurse who provides specialized, holistic care to patients experiencing complex breastfeeding challenges</p> <p>that require high levels of care, including, but not limited to: high-risk pregnant patients; infants with oral anatomy issues (ankyloglossia, cleft lip and/or</p> <p>palate) prematurity, failure to thrive, and hyperbilirubinemia; and patients with risk for insufficient or delayed milk supply, and/or complex medical</p> <p>histories This role aligns with Rush's mission, vision, and values, as well as the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE)</p> <p>Standards of Practice.</p> <p>Other information:</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in nursing. </li><li>Current RN license in Illinois. </li><li>International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification. </li><li>Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. </li><li>At least 2 years of clinical experience in maternal/child nursing. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in nursing or related field. </li><li>More than 2 years of IBCLC experience (inpatient/outpatient). </li><li>Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records. </li><li>Clinical lactation support experience. </li><li>Spanish-speaking proficiency. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Work in a fast-paced environment with time constraints. </li><li>Ability to stand or walk for most of the shift. </li><li>Lift/carry objects weighing 35-40 lbs. </li></ul> <p>Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Strong communication skills with diverse patient populations. </li><li>Ability to work independently, manage assignments, and demonstrate attention to detail. </li><li>Flexibility to adapt to team scheduling needs. </li></ul> <p>Disclaimer: The above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this job. It is not to be</p> <p>construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Clinical Expertise: </li></ul> <p>o Perform expert lactation assessments and. skills by consistently identifying, assessing, and solving issues within scope of</p> <p>practice; demonstrates expert clinical judgment in complicatedlactation/humanmilkscenarios.</p> <p>o Develop and implement feeding plans (breastfeeding, pumping, supplementation).</p> <p>o Performs initial and on-going assessments of the parent/baby dyad's lactation goals.</p> <p>o Assists with evaluating procedures, developing, and implementing the safe handling of milk fed in the postpartum unit.</p> <p>o Provide equitable care to diverse populations, including those with cultural, linguistic, or socioeconomic challenges.</p> <ul> <li>Communication & Advocacy: </li></ul> <p>o Communicate effectively with healthcare teams, patients, and families.</p> <p>o Serve as a resource for healthcare staff across various departments.</p> <ul> <li>Education & Policy Development: </li></ul> <p>o Deliver evidence-based education to OB services staff.</p> <p>o Revise policies to reflect current lactation research and evidence-based practices.</p> <p>o Plan and lead breastfeeding support groups for OB patients and members of the Rush community.</p> <ul> <li>Quality Improvement: </li></ul> <p>o Collect and manage data for Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative redesignation.</p> <p>o Monitor and evaluate quality and safety issues related to lactation practices.</p> <ul> <li>Research & Professional Development: </li></ul> <p>o Stay updated with lactation research and pursue continuing education.</p> <p>o Actively engage in professional organizations, workshops, and seminars</p> <p>Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
