<p>This is an Internal Job Posting. ONLY CURRENT CITY OF HAMILTON EMPLOYEES WHO ARE IBEW MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY.</p> <p>This is skilled work of journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex electric wiring, instrumentation, and related electrical systems, equipment and fixtures.</p> <p> </p> <p>Work involves the performance of skilled and difficult mechanical operations and the making of installations and repairs in connection with complex electrical systems and monitoring devices throughout the utilities. Work is characterized by situations wherein candidates for employment must possess journeyman level skill and, in addition, must be able rapidly to acquire a variety of specialized knowledges and skills in their specific area of assignment. Assignments may be received orally or in writing from superiors and may be accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Routine work is performed with considerable independence but, upon more difficult assignments, superior technical or professional personnel are readily available for advice and guidance. All work is subject to inspection in process and upon completion for quality as well as subject to automatic inspection and review by the successful operation of the repaired or installed equipment or apparatus.</p> <ul> <li>Installs and repairs conduit and wiring in and about a municipal power plant; tests and installs supervisory control equipment. </li><li>Does a wide variety of technical repair and adjustment work related to the instrumentation of a variety of facilities and equipment throughout water, sewage and electric utility plants, switchyards, and substations. </li><li>Installs and services a variety of totalizing equipment including telemetering transmitters and receivers; calibrates resistance bridges and scales of measuring elements. </li><li>Installs and services residential and commercial services of the underground type. </li><li>Operates winching equipment; pulls and forms lead cable; heats and melts metals; and prepares splice sleeves. </li><li>Participates in the installation and repair of automatic switchgears; synchronous motors, turbo-generators, motor driven pumps, transformers, and related electric apparatus. </li><li>Participates in cable splicing. </li><li>Performs a variety of technical maintenance tasks related to generators, gas turbines, boiler auxiliaries, substations, and power plants. </li><li>Wires, assembles and installs relays, shunts, coils, transformers, and switches. </li><li>Performs related work as required. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools and equipment of the electrical trade. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. </li><li>Considerable knowledge and skill in the use of a wide variety of electrical testing devices, including voltmeters, ammeters, ohm meters, watt meters, and other devices. </li><li>Knowledge of Municipal and National Electrical Codes. </li><li>Ability to rapidly acquire considerable knowledge of the construction and function of a wide variety of instruments, devices, and apparatus pertinent to the specific area of assignment. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions and to read and interpret sketches, diagrams and blueprints. </li><li>Ability to locate and correct defects in complex electrical apparatus and to effect remedial measures. </li><li>Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform relatively heavy manual work occasionally under adverse weather conditions. </li><li>Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the electrical trade. </li><li>Experience working with CT's and PT's </li><li>Experience working with electric metering </li><li>Experience working with customers (residential and commercial) </li><li>Experience and a willingness to work with technology (i.e., computers, email, Microsoft excel, etc.) </li><li>Skill in communication (written and verbal) </li><li>Skill in problem solving </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a Certificate of Completion of an Apprentice Wireman Program, as issued by the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry; or </li><li>Possession of a journey level Wireman Certificate, as issued by an appropriate training or licensing company or governmental agency; or </li><li>Evidence of a minimum of five (5) years actual on-job experience as a Wireman in the construction or maintenance of commercial and industrial projects. </li></ul>
