<p>This position Engineer 3 leads the Transportation Systems Management team within the Nashville Department of Transportation& Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT). </p> <p>The Transportation Systems Management team is responsible for traffic signals, street lighting, signage, markings, traffic studies, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The team consists of approximately 25 staff members with three direct reports focused on deploying a safe and reliable transportation network across Nashville and Davidson County. The Engineer 3 will also play a key role in the upgrades and operations of 592 smart signals under the Choose How You Move transit referendum that will invest approximately $250 million in smart signal and fiber communication upgrades over the next decade to ensure a world class transportation network. This position will follow our Vision Zero initiative in providing safe streets for all modes of transportation, program development for both design and operations, and collaboration and communication across a wide cross section of stakeholders. The incumbent will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing a broad variety of complex professional engineering functions. Performs related duties as required.</p> <p>The Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure delivers a range of services, and the nearly 400 employees work around the clock to ensure a multimodal system that offers choice and better connects neighborhoods, residents, businesses and visitors to the place that they need and want to go to in a safe manner. These employees are responsible for over 2,200 miles of public roadways and rights-of-way, over 6,000 streets, over 300 bridges, 835 traffic signals and over 1,200 miles of bike/sidewalk lanes and much more. Big events in Nashville consist of CMA Festival, Stanley Cup Finals, Titans games, and any number of special events. These require big preparation and big clean-up, and the Nashville Department of Transportation employees are up for the challenge.</p> <ul> <li>Develops standards, criteria, policies, and overall long-range plans for transportation systems management delivery and operations. </li><li>Responsible for the designs of major signal and ITS projects from initiation through construction. </li><li>Develops and deploys innovative solutions to improve transportation network safety and reliability. </li><li>Evaluates and improves efficiency and cost effectiveness of transportation systems management programs. </li><li>Prepares, assists, and advises in preparation and review of annual capital and operating budgets. </li><li>Coordinates the activities of consultants in development and implementation of transportation systems management projects and programs. </li><li>Presents information on transportation systems management projects and programs to various commissions and boards serving as the subject matter expert. </li><li>Manages programs through a capital management system from initiation to completion. </li><li>Performs supervisory duties related to the selection, training, work assignment and evaluation of employees within the work unit, which may include other engineers, technicians, and clerical staff. </li><li>Provides advice and problem-solving expertise on especially difficult engineering problems in the area of transportation systems management. </li><li>Interprets and enforces local, state, and federal regulations affecting area of expertise. </li><li>Reviews, applies for, and executes federal grant applications. </li><li>Represents department at various meetings with both internal and external stakeholders </li><li>Prepares various reports. </li></ul> <p>Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of progressively responsible post degree engineering experience, including four (4) years as a licensed Professional Engineer.</p> <p>OR</p> <p>A Professional Engineering License and eight (8) years of engineering experience, including two (2) years as a professional engineer.</p> <p>LICENSES REQUIRED: </p> <p>A Professional Engineering License from any state is required to apply for this position; however, the Tennessee Professional Engineering License must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period. Failure to obtain the Tennessee Professional Engineering License will terminate employment.</p> <p>Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.</p> <p>Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government. </p> <ul> <li>Four (4) years of verifiable professional engineering experience </li><li>PTOE Certification Preferred </li><li>Knowledge of NDOT's manuals, specifications and guidelines for building projects. </li><li>Knowledge of TDOT Specifications and Guidelines </li><li>TDOT Local Programs Training for Local Government Manual and Right-of-Way/ Consultant Engineering Inspection </li></ul> <p>We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity at all levels.
